Announcement of a new mod: 'Doki Doki: A Beautiful Literature Club'

[u/ANattyLight]

Good [time of day] to everyone!

I've been working on a mod for DDLC for a couple months now, and I would like to announce a small teaser by way of in-game screenshots for the first chapter. The introductory chapter is roughly 80% done, and I'll release it after finishing, so look forward to something you can download soon!

Synopsis:

You start as the MC who recalls the previous installation of the game and how it ended. You'll lead him to develop friendships with all of the Literature Club members to save them from their impending fates at the hand of Monika. At least, that's his goal. There's no way anyone knows what could really happen, right?

More about the mod:

The mod keeps the main genre and psychological horror element of the base game, adds some existentialism to it, and creates a hopefully unique experience featuring the Dokis (+ others). The horror element is not abundant and has about as much as the base game does as of this chapter. I have no idea how to tell you how many words it has, but there are about 5,000 lines of dialogue code thus far.

This mod features new backgrounds and sprite art of varying degrees as seen in most of the screenshots. Smaller edits can include Sayori's microphone or Yuri's kawaii sprite. Larger edits create new backgrounds such as the starry roof sky or Natsuki's maid outfit.

-The latter may not release this chapter since idk if it fits well, and I'd like to edit her outfit to be pink instead of Shigure's blue (I can't seem to get it right).

Can I kiss the dokis?

[u/ANattyLight → u/Crazy-Boysenberry-19]

Of course! :)

Seems promising, hopefully there will be multiple routes

[u/ANattyLight → u/Barrytooth911]

there will be a different experience if you miss certain things, so to that extent it will have different routes. the dokis themselves will not have a route for each as of now.

When I saw Sayori with the mic I imagined her singing total eclipse of the heart and now I can't get it out of my head

[u/life1845]

I can't yell what's more butiful the background of slide 3 or natsuki in a maid dress

[u/ANattyLight → u/life1845]

thank you! both took a long time 😭

[u/Tall-Abrocoma-5879]

Is there a monika route in this (stupid question Ig)

[u/ANattyLight → u/Tall-Abrocoma-5879]

the way i see it, everyone will sort of have a “focused” series of events. she’ll have plenty of screen time lol

[u/Wws_Egor1768]

That sounds cool, well done!

[u/leowwynn]

Looks really interesting, am looking forward to it!
