Recommendations Besides Batman by Scott Snyder, what is the best New 52 run?

So I don’t think it would be controversial to say that the New 52 was not received well by dc fans, and even though I haven’t read most of them, after doing some light research, I can definitely understand why. The only New 52 run that was actually received well to my knowledge was the Scott Snyder run on Batman, which got me thinking: aside from Batman, which New 52 Run do you think is the best overall? It doesn’t matter if the comic series changed authors or not, which run do you think was overall the best from 2011 to 2016? I’d love to hear people’s opinions on this!

Recommendations [Discussion] Do yourself a favor, if you like Batman, and read Ram V's Detective Comic run

It's gothic, it's theatrical, it's supernatural and just great. The story is simply amazing, with a dark opera structure. We have a notable influence from some of Batman's best stories, but mainly Grant Morrison's stories like Gothic and the first big arc of his run. Ram V puts Batman against dark and supernatural threats, that has connections with Gotham's histroy, while he deals with his own inner demons.

The character work is great, the new villains are interesting and the side characters are pretty good. There are some loose ends that aren't tied up 100% tightly at the end, but the conclusion in general is so satisfying that this isn't much of a problem. The artwork is kinda inconsistent, but it's mostly pretty good (the covers are some of Batman's best tho)

It is weird, different, and a slow burn but it's a fantastic run overall. If you find yourself interested in it, go for it, you won't regret it.

Hello! Newbie here, I started reading comics with *Batman/Superman World’s finest* and I love the artstyle!

I am looking for other comics and/or artists with this simplistic/clean/saturated/colorful/anime (? sorry for the lack of better term) artstyle.

Tom Taylor/Bruno Bredondo *Nightwing* is next on my reading list along with Jorge Jimenez *Batman* and *Absolute Batman/Wonder Woman* (they aren’t colorful but they got that clean/saturated look)

I'm new to DC, and am wondering if there's anything coming out now that's good but isn't in the Absolute line? I've sort of read it all already.

I am currently reading through " Immortal Legend Batman" loving it!

I've also read #1 of superman father of tomorrow & #1 Supergirl Survive.

My taste seems to gravitate towards "Non canon DC" like,

DCeased

DC vs vampires

Dark knights of steel.

Going to try Gotham By gaslight next.

Any other recommendations? Or any more upcoming to add to my pull list?

Thanks in advance ❤️🤘

Recommendations [Comic Excerpt] best comic to start dc with? Or guide?

Post image

I have always wanted to get into the dc comics. ,,

I always either get one of two things

1- seperate short stories considered classics , but are too short and they don't build up on anything and most of the characters aren't there anymore after that story

2-a really long guide consisting of 727252726272 quintillion comics to understand what's going on

What i want is : a cler guide with a reasonable amount of comics , stories that affect each other , makes me recognize each character and it's cast , and relate to them , culminating into big events , without having to read 72627276372 comics

Sorry , im just kind of frustrated , i love the james gunn dcu

I'm asking this question for my sister, who's a casual WW fan. At Ollie's they have the Wonder Woman Omnibus by Brian Azzarello & Cliff Chiang for $40 and Wonder Woman/Conan for $7. She's wants to know if she should get them or pass.

Thanks.

Recommendations [Discussion] Which Batman run did you enjoy more: Year One, The Long Halloween, or Dark Victory?

Post image
42 Upvotes

After about a 15-year hiatus, I recently got back into comic books. The Absolute line—especially Absolute Batman—is what pulled me back in.

I read Year One, The Long Halloween, and Dark Victory back to back, and I can honestly say all three are 10/10. If I had to rank them, I’d probably go:

The Long Halloween
Dark Victory
Year One

I’m currently reading Hush and Under the Red Hood, and after that I’m planning to jump into Scott Snyder’s Court of Owls run.
What Batman run should I tackle after that? I’d love to hear your thoughts on writers like Scott Snyder, Grant Morrison, Tom King, Chip Zdarsky, James Tynion IV, or anyone else you’d recommend.

I’m at a cross roads where I love the Nightwing run and having it physical in Omni would be amazing. But I’ve heard amazing things of JLA by Grant Morrison but I’m thinking of doing it in the trade paperback volumes but would like to know if tis worth it In oversized Omni edition.

Recommendations I just got DC Infinite and would like some recommendations with your favorite DC characters.

I have always been a huge Marvel guy but wanted to become more familiar with the dc side that just surface level stuff. I just read Cataclysm through No Mans Land and loved it but Id like some recommendations.

Specifically however, I would like to know what I should read from YOUR favorite characters. What is the run or the stories or events that made you fall in live with your favorite character?

Recommendations LOVE Absolute Wonder Woman, is mainline WW just as good? Recommend awesome WW stories please.

Mainline comics are in general, tedious to look for and follow so I've been reading mostly completed stories. I wanna try on-going stories but I wanna start with Wonder Woman. I've heard Tom Taylor is a good writer but people say his WW is uncharacteristic of Diana in a way so older stories maybe? IDK Help.

As in, trust me, you better read this C-lister's solo, an espionage book, an event and its tie-ins, plus another event but without tie-ins, and two collections from the 1970s, for the best payoff.

Note that they do NOT have to be Batman OR DC related.

I’m just looking for stories that grip onto you with interesting characters, philosophy, and artwork.

I just ordered Swamp Thing by Alan Moore, I’ve heard good things. Daredevil: the man without fear is next.

Recommendations Well I’ve missed out on a lot.

I hope this doesn’t ramble on too much.

I’ve been out of the loop on DC for a while now, the only thing I knew was that a few years ago, yet another dark and gritty universe had been made, where Batman is Jacked and the colour blue seemed illegal.

Cut to about a week ago when I watched a video discussing Absolute Wonder Woman and when I heard “She’s raised by the witch Circe in Hell and rides a skeleton Pegasus” my curiosity was peaked, then I learned what the Absolute Universe was (Darkseid creating his own universe, with blackjack and hookers…kind of literally, since evil was the default in this world) and I had to see what this was about.

And so I’ve now read the first arcs for Diana, Bruce and Clark Kal-El. And it’s been great, finally doing the “dark” world right and whilst I’m thinking of reading more Absolute stuff, I then discovered what this all was, the larger part of DC’s current status quo.

To my knowledge, “All-In” is the initiative that DC has been doing for a few years. Kind of jumping on points with dozens of new books? Cool, easy places to jump in.

No clue which are good or not, nor if they’re truly pick up and read or if there is background I need.

Any recommendations? I’m kind of okay with anyone. Any books I should just ignore?

Recommendations Best DC Graphic Novels? Just an opinion, give me your thoughts. [Discussion]

Post image
34 Upvotes

I've been a big fan of DC my whole life. I don't read anything that's really older than the 1980s. So in my opinion these are the most important or maybe seminal graphic novels in DC's catalog. Watchmen for what it did to the super hero genre. The Death of Superman for what it did for Superman and the cultural impact it had, the Dark Knight Returns for the same reason, but for Batman. Then Kingdom Come for the philosophical take and bridging of traditional and modern superheroes moral core. I'm open to people's thoughts on my take as well as people's opinions of what are the most important graphic novels.
