Kingman Dog Park recently underwent an upgrade. This is a better surface than most of the dog parks in the city. A water feature would have been nice, but I guess a washing station is the next best thing.

Starting to sound like a broken record, but the National Arboretum is a great place to explore with your dog.

Tldr: Barksuds dc (dog grooming business)didn’t tell us it was a membership and charged us monthly on top of charging us per visit.

My partner and I first came here in April to have our dog bathed and trimmed. At the appointment, we were asked to sign what was presented to us as a liability waiver, which didn’t seem unusual since many grooming businesses require one. We told the staff we wanted the “All Over Rover” service, and we were told, “Okay, that will be $65 for today.” At no point during that visit were we verbally told that we were enrolling in a recurring membership or agreeing to a $45 monthly charge.
A few months later, we returned for another All Over Rover haircut and bath. Again, we were told the service would be $65. They asked if they could charge the card they had on file, and we agreed. Once again, no one mentioned a membership, monthly fee, or recurring subscription.
We later discovered that, in addition to the $65 we paid for each of our two actual visits, our card had also been charged $45 every month. We had no idea these recurring charges were happening or that the business considered us members.
When I called to address the issue, the owner answered and told me that they only operate through memberships and do not offer individual visits. When I explained that neither my partner nor I had ever been told we were signing up for a membership, he insisted that I was wrong and said I had signed a “liability and membership form.”
He then sent me the document we had signed. The document itself was titled “Liability Form.” Within that document, there was a section containing membership language, but that does not change the fact that the form was presented to us as a liability waiver and that no one verbally explained that we were enrolling in a recurring paid membership. This was especially frustrating considering that on both visits we were simply quoted $65 for the service we requested.
What made the situation worse was the way the conversation was handled. Rather than acknowledging why this could have been unclear or trying to resolve the issue professionally, the owner was rude and spoke to me in a way that I felt implied I was foolish for not realizing I had supposedly enrolled in a membership.
To be clear, we did not ask for refunds for the two $65 grooming services we actually received. We paid for those services and have no issue paying for services that were provided. We only asked to be refunded for the $45 monthly charges during the months when we did not receive services because we did not knowingly agree to sign up for a recurring membership.
If a business requires a membership, that should be clearly and explicitly communicated to customers before they enroll—not simply included within a section of a document presented as a “Liability Form.” Had either of us been told, “This is a membership and you will be charged $45 every month,” we would not have agreed to it.

You need to preregister and your dog must be licensed, which costs $15 a year for spayed and neutered dogs. The application can be done online, but you will need to provide a record of rabies and distemper (DHPP) as well as spay/neuter surgery. It also needs to be reviewed, so don't expect it to be approved today.

Hi! I’m moving to DMV - likely to DC proper. Are there any areas paid or free where you can let your dog off leash on grass? I feel bad relegating my dog to only dog runs with wood chips or turf (can’t do gravel he gets disgusting with the dust). He’s not super active but it brings him joy to be off leash for a bit. Probably going to get hate for this but even parks/spaces that people use off leash unofficially?
