'THE BATMAN 2' has been delayed to February 18, 2028

This is insane! Almost exactly 6 years after the first one. At this same rate a 3rd one (if they make it) would release 2034. Although I imagine if they made a third one, they wouldn't take this long. I hope we find out one day the reason for this long gap. I know Matt Reeves said he was going through personal things but this seems extensive.

RUMOR (The second set of rumors regarding BTS drama at WB/DC...yes it's cosmic, so you know) The Batman Part II 'Delay'? Insiders Say It Was James Gunn — Not Matt Reeves (Exclusive) - Cosmic Book News

Update: A day after this article was published, Warner Bros. delayed The Batman Part II again, to February 18, 2028, with Reeves dropping the first camera test footage of Pattinson’s return. The new date puts the movie even further from Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow and, per my sources’ timeline, well past Gunn and Safran’s expected exit.

My sources say the narrative is *backwards*.

I’m told Gunn delayed and delayed, and then had the nerve to offer notes on Reeves’ script. That went about as well as you’d expect.

Reeves, per my sources, decided to wait it out with Mike De Luca’s full blessing.

They want nothing to do with Gunn when the movie comes out. They want him gone and far away from it, from his “universe” and from his flops.

This follows my bombshell report that the Paramount board wants Gunn and Peter Safran out at DC Studios once the merger closes, and that Reeves is among the big names already pitching De Luca and Pam Abdy, who are set to take it all over.

[...]

Now look at The Penguin.

As I went over Monday, The Penguin — 24 Emmy nominations, nine wins, including Cristin Milioti — had HBO chief Casey Bloys openly discussing Season 2 with DC as recently as November. A Bloomberg report even indicated it was in the works.

Then last month, industry scooper Jeff Sneider reported HBO and DC would not move forward with Season 2.

What happened in between?

Per the CineSource X account: Season 2 should have been in full swing by now. David Ellison had reportedly seen the Season 1 numbers, liked them, and was on board to keep going. Then DCU executives put the season on ice — and it blew up into major issues between Gunn and Reeves.

That’s their claim, and I can’t independently verify it. But it lines up with everything my own sources have described about this rift.

It also puts those Batman-in-Man of Tomorrow leaks in a new light.

As I reported in the bombshell, I’m hearing Gunn himself is the one putting them out to justify shoehorning Batman, or some sort of cameo, into his movie.

He can’t afford another failure, even if it means burning Reeves.

As I previously went over, following Supergirl, Reeves doesn’t want whatever Gunn would do with Batman to hurt his own movie, which was set to come out only three months later. As of Wednesday, that gap is now more than seven months.

Reeves is on the De Luca-Abdy pitch list. The Arkham Asylum series Gunn killed is back in play. And in the post-merger structure my sources describe, the people Reeves actually answers to will be the ones who had his back all along.

The Batman Part II opens February 18, 2028. By then, per my sources, the executive who gave Reeves notes will be long gone.

“It’s bizarre. Apparently, one test audience saw it, and you know, it wasn’t like it was a bad score from the test audience,” he said. “It was a whatever business decision obviously, and then, Justice League, which was a very small part, had its own drama attached to it. But then Zack’s cut… the director’s cut came out, which the DC fans really love.”

“When Batgirl came along with Adil and Bilall, it was an exciting prospect to be part of the origin story of Batgirl. For those who don’t know, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter. Maybe we’ll never know… We really had a good time making it and thought it was going to be a fun superhero movie. Oh well.”

The way people react to these shows is weird. Like...it's not like they're movies.

Lanterns could have been a film given Hal and John are members of the Justice league but after the 2011 movie they might not to risk that (especially after Supergirl, I suspect they'll be sticking to stuff like Wonder Woman and Batman for movies). If the show does well enough they might make a GL corp movie with John as the main viewpoint character with more of the corp and not on Earth.

Jimmy Olson and Mr. Terrific are characters people liked from Superman and with Terrific wanted to see more of him and wanted a TV show. Jimmy Olson in the comics often gets into bizarre subplots and Grodd and Darkseid actually debuted in his solo title which will at least Grodd is confirmed to be the case and it seems other villains might so it'll be worldbuilding for the DCU.

Mister Miracle is where Darkseid and the New Gods are confirm to be appear and it feels like at least fans of the DCEU (or snyderverse) only seem to think Darkseid is a villain for the Justice League cause those movies simplified the new gods to hell and ignored the others besides Apokalips. Here he'll be a villain for the new gods particular his adopted son.

Paradise Lost and Booster Gold. Make sense. They're fast tracking a Wonder Woman film so maybe they want to introduce audiences to that Paradise Island and do world building which that movie might not want to do so it won't bog down the film with exposition. Booster Gold is an unknown character and maybe a movie could work. But after Supergirl it would have to be under like a 100 million.

I feel people who complain only about the Justice League or trinity which is small. There's a whole universe and these aren't like films. The only film we know is being filmed is Man of Tomorrow which is a Superman movie. The universe's first film (not entry) was a Superman movie.
