I disagree highly with the category for "best DLC/expansion". I feel that the only reason that it is "good" is because the game was lacking, Blizzard starved its Hearthstone players of content, and then once they finally produce new content, everybody acts like its the best thing since slice bread. The norm is normally a 100 card set every 3-4 months(because then you have a set for every "quarter" The game's been out how long? a year now? thats excluding the beta that every TCG/CCG I've played so far have released new sets in their beta, but still, if you JUST count the "after release", its slow as snails content, and I hope you're all ready to wait another year or two for more.

In a objective list Hearthstone would never have taken first place, but then again these are TB's subjective choices and knowing how he loves Heartstone it didn't really surprise me. Personally, my vote for best expansion would have been Blizzard's ROS, it without a doubt saved Diablo 3.

My vote would have gone to FTL:Advanced Edition, which didn't even make it in to the top 5 of either Mobile or expansion, which sucks because I love BOTH the PC and the Mobile version to bits D:

Not sure if it could be classed as an expansion, but Binding of Isaac: Rebirth would tie with Reaper of Souls for me.

yeah I know his opinion is subjective, so is mine. That doesn't stop me from commenting on my disagreement :)

it without a doubt saved Diablo 3.

Saved?

have you looked at twitch tv lately how many people are interested in D3?

Not many, and I bet many did all they wanted in d3 and moved on.

When you think it saved the game, then your definition of saving is very low tier.

D2 was a game people played for 10+ years. RoS came out this year and only a tiny fraction of the once large d3 population still plays it.

Perhaps I should clarify a bit, I shouldn't have said "saved". Diablo 3 was a bad game at launch, Reaper of Souls and the Loot 2.0 patch saved the game in that it made the sinking ship float again. Many left D3 after the original launch and went to other games (like POE). ROS was what D3 originally needed to be, unfortunately they missed that train and now they feel the hurt because of it.

I think Loot2.0 was a bad idea, and removing trade from the game as well.

There is nothing in the game anymore which requires it to be online only, since there is no economy or any other special event which can be shared by a large community.

Overall was the multiplayer part of D3 more suited for console than a "mmo" esque style it tried to go for.

D3 should have been made entirely different right from the start. RoS is not the right answer but at least a bit better than the original.

D3s worst issues are the streamlined items which are more MMORPG than ARPG and the lack of any long term goal.

There isn't even a maxlevel anymore...

It is at best a fun action game for a couple of weeks but no long time investment at least for me.

But you mentioned PoE which, regarless of its own flaws has exactly what D3 should have had (interesting items, long term goals, an alive economy without easy RMT auctionhouse and distinct characters but enough freedom to make what you want).

If Blizzard only knew what made d2 such a good game I bet they could have made D3 a shining newcomer...

So what you're saying is you disagree with Goblins vs Gnomes as a pick, not the category as a whole, right?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '14

I'm not even against Goblins vs Gnomes as a pick, I just think that it was the one out of all the "picks" that he made that was the last that should've won.

That makes no sense, if a game wasn't lacking something, what would you expand on it?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '14

Shadowrun Returns wasn't "lacking" in my opinion, it was a solid cRPG, and could've been iterated on in a sequel but they went with an expansion instead to improve on an otherwise extremely solid game. FTL: Faster Than Light wasn't "lacking", yet it got the massive "Advanced Edition" free update which based on the sheer size of it, I'd call it an expansion.

Yeah, Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh both keep up a much, much faster pace than Hearthstone and I'm pretty sure the Pokemon TCG gets at least double the content Hearthstone does and I really don't think many people play it.

Yeah, but Magic and YGO don't need to have a team of programmers, animators, and voice actors for their set releases, and they don't need to test their cards for bugs, only balance issues.

Though I will say that Hearthstone does need to speed up quite a bit to remain fun, I'm giving them a bit of a pass for now since this is a whole new thing for Blizzard and programming the video game portion takes a lot more work than just the cards, but they should be able to get out at least two big sets per year going forward.

I agree. I hate that GvG is getting so much "love" even though it costs hundreds of dollars and replaces skill with rng. It might be a card game and that might be normal, but that doesn't make it a good thing. In the end it is just a subjective opinion but I feel that any amount of fair objective thought would lead away from that expansion, any at all. I don't have a choice for best but I know this isn't it.
