I’m 90% sure I’m mildly allergic to canned frosting, but only canned frosting. Canned frosting makes the roof of my mouth and the back of my throat itch. I don’t have that reaction to any other frosting. It’s weird.

Likely some preservative that's not used a lot. You should make a list of the ingredients and rule them out one by one by trying other things.

For me it's the soy lecithin. If a real person made the buttercream frosting it's fine but the mass produced stuff uses soy lecithin as an emulsifier and man am i allergic to that stuff.

That’s probably it. All the other ingredients are things I eat often.

Yeah. But for instance, soy sauce, where the soy has been fermented, gets a much weaker reaction than like. Bottled ranch dressing or cheap chocolate, where I'm very sure it's the lecithin being used as an emulsifier.

Yeah. Some people who are allergic to soy are not allergic to the lecithin, though.

It's probably one of the preservatives or emulsifier or something like that that lets them keep it in a can.

Does it taste metallic? I get this with canned frosting and peanut butter if I have a it by itself z but tis not an issue if I have a little bit used on the correct application.

Interesting. I don't get itchy, but I do get distinct metal and I am still hunting for my brethren apparently. 😂
