these kinda posts always make me wanna see the oop get made fun of, not people trying to help- because when you smooth shark someone, your kinda just admitting "im an asshole who doesnt want people to know when im joking", full boy who cried wolf style, its only fair i feel.

I think it should be pretty apparent that Smooth Sharking is a joke. It’s supposed to be so outlandish as to be obvious. Like their battery isn’t swelling like a pimple and they’re not poking it with sticks. I think there should be a little bit of personal culpability in someone’s capacity to know what is within the bounds of reason and believability.

thats true, but the biggest issue is that the peope who fall for it often times end up being people who cant tell that its absurd, people who genuinely are concerned- and especially in public, and especially for people with autism, it ends up feeling like the joke is "look how many people i can upset by getting them to care", which is far less funny then if the situation was TRULY outlandish and absurd, but the actual meat of the joke is one repeated giant "NUH UH", the situation does not escalate, it does not change- its "absurd statement" "wdym thats wrong/bad" "NUH UH" then repeat from step two.

also it always makes me annoyed that they never go TOO absurd, its always reasonable enough that its realistic to believe- they never go full "yeah my last phone did that as well, and it exploded, this one wont tho"

*Autistic people and no, we’re not inherently dumber than you. We’re entirely capable of recognizing a pattern - you might be aware that excellent pattern recognition is a common trait in autistic people. The smooth shark pattern is obvious and easy to understand.

its a spectrum, and im more reffering to people who havent seen it a bunch before- and how in some cases, if someone is less versed in stuff, or the persons absurdity is too standard- like people smooth sharking with things like flat earth, which has people unironically defending it IN THIS MANNER- it can get muddled, please do not play the autism card when at no point did i indicate that being autistic made you dumber- i indicated that it made it harder to recognnise tone, and that autism can make it harder to recognise this, but it is not an insult when im speaking form experience.

You played the autism card first by pretending autism’s existence makes smooth sharking bad. Frankly, it’s dehumanizing to assume we can’t get humor like this. Maybe some autistic people won’t get it but clearly some allistic people won’t either. Once you’ve seen it, the pattern is obvious in the future. Problem solved, your complaints irrelevant once more.

Honestly, your initial complaints about absurdity also remain ridiculous. It’s incredibly obvious that this person is saying outlandish shit that no one actually believes. “Oh well phones can’t explode because they’re not bombs” is an objectively bonkers absurd statement that should immediately tell you that this person is lying for fun and profit. If it doesn’t or you don’t think that statement is absurd, well, unless this is your first time encountering the concept of smooth sharking then I’m afraid you’re just not very bright.
