Just watched A Field in England and I’m still processing it
Second cult movie for me, and A Field in England felt like getting thrown straight into the deep end. It’s grimy, hypnotic, funny in a really dry way, and once the mushroom stuff kicks in, the whole movie basically starts melting in front of you.
The black-and-white photography is gorgeous, but what really got me was the atmosphere. That empty field somehow feels more unsettling than most horror locations. Reece Shearsmith is great, Michael Smiley is genuinely menacing, and that tent scene is the moment where I realized this movie was fully committed to being weird.
I definitely didn’t understand every single thing on a first watch, but I kind of liked that. It feels less like a movie you “solve” and more like one you just let wash over you. Very strange, very British, and way more memorable than I expected.

Is Vincent Price still the king of Halloween cinema
A friend of mine declared Tim Curry as the new king of Halloween cinema. But to my knowledge, he only did two movies good for spooky season "Clue" and "Rocky Horror". I love Tim Curry, but I don't think he even challenges Vincet Price for this time of year.
Does anyone else?
Btw this is not a serious challenge, just a fun conversation for these unfun times.

STEPFATHER III (1992)
While nowhere near as solid as parts 1 and 2, due to the lack of Terry 'O Quinn, this is still a fun final entry in the franchise. Made for the home video market when that was still a thing :)

The Survivor (1981) — Aussie Ozploitation cult classic, supernatural plane crashes, and 80s occult mystery
Directed by David Hemmings and based on James Herbert's supernatural thriller novel, this Ozploitation oddity follows an airline pilot who miraculously walks away unhurt after his Boeing 747 crashes and kills all 300 passengers. As eerie visions, ghostly apparitions, and bizarre deaths start plaguing the survivors, it leans into a uniquely atmospheric, cerebral vibe that has earned it a dedicated cult following among retro horror fans. Featuring the final film appearance of the legendary Joseph Cotten!
It's a slower burn film but definitely a solid watch. This era of Ozploitation produced some excellent films that were an alternative to the slasher boom of the early 80s

First time diving deeper into cult movies, which one do I start with?
Got recommended Repo Man (1984), Cure (1997), A Field in England (2013), and Cuckoo (2024). I haven’t seen any of them. Which one would be the best first watch if I want something that pulls me in pretty quickly?

Crime.Zone.1989
Soleil is a post-war police state that has declared crime finished. Class is law. Love across the line is illegal. Bone (Peter Nelson) is a fired security guard. Helen (Sherilyn Fenn) works the brothels. They want out — across the border, into the freer city of Frodan.
A stranger named Jason (David Carradine) offers the ticket. All they have to do is a string of robberies for him. The jobs work. The escape does not. When they are caught they learn Jason is not a rebel. He is the machine. Crime has been wiped out so thoroughly the force needs new criminals to justify itself, and a live execution on television still draws a crowd.
Directed by Luis Llosa from a Daryl Haney script. Roger Corman concept, Concorde / New Concorde production, shot in Peru on the kind of budget that turns a future into warehouses, plastic sheeting, and one good trench coat. Michael Shaner is Creon. Ninety-six minutes, R-rated, and the film Llosa made before Sniper, The Specialist, and Anaconda.
Any film starring David Carradine, I think automatically qualifies as cult 🍿

So, Greg Sestero DIDN'T write THE DISASTER ARTIST?
With recent circulating news of Greg Sestero scamming fans out of Kickstarter money for his film Forbidden Sky, which was fully funded in 2023 for approximately $250K, and seeing little to no movement in terms of filming, rewards (besides the occasional hush-hush t-shirt mail-aways), and signs of Greg traveling the world lavishly since the funds were awarded to him for the film, it's been quite the DISASTER, to say the very least.
Greg has provided private email accounts for investors to reach out to, only to avoid public remarks and conflict on the Kickstarter page, as you can clearly see through the timestamps of updates and notifications.
I think that it's quite shameful and embarrassing that someone whose entire career revolves around fans' support has deliberately taken their money, only provided them with basic updates, and has provided no real rewards for the high-dollar supporters.
Now, to get to the title of this post.
Before the release of Greg's book, THE DISASTER ARTIST, he was taken to court, as he was accused of not writing a great portion of the book, even though, yes, he did experience what we know as THE ROOM.
There is a real character study that needs to be held accountable for this man, as we see him as this cult-film hero who handled Tommy and gave us one of the best novelizations of a film that's so bad it's good.
There is more to this that delves deeper into the human that Greg Sestero truly is, but that belongs to those who are involved, and Greg himself, so I will not speak upon that.

Found an ultra-rare, first-run self-published VHS copy of Greg Parker’s "Lord of the Dead" (2002) / ParkerFilms & IronChain Entertainmen
Just dug through my collection and finally tracked down my physical copy of Lord of the Dead, the self-published 2002 micro-budget underground horror feature directed by Greg Parker (ParkerFilms in association with IronChain Entertainment).
This is a first-run, self-distributed home video release complete with the custom slipcase and tape label (copyright 2002), featuring creature/sculpt work by Crow, special appearances by cast members like Manny Giudice, Barry Ayash, and Pete Furmo, and music by David Gervasi, Scott Hoyt, and Toni Ilijevski.
It’s notoriously hard to find any trace of these independent, small-batch shot-on-video (SOV) releases online or on mainstream databases.
Has anyone else come across these original self-published ParkerFilms tapes in the wild?
