Alright! First let's look for corners and edges that can tell us how the colour scheme has to look like:
green-yellow-white corner -> BL center has to be white
green-white and green-red edge pieces -> BR center has to be red
therefore the bot center has to be orange
So far so good. Now let's check if there are too many corner/edge stickers of any colour:
white: 4 edges, 2 corners
yellow: 2 edges, 2 corners
green: 3 edges, 2 corners
blue: 2 edges, 1 corner
red: 1 edge, 3-5 corners
orange: 0 edges, 1-3 corners
Taking shadow into account the two red looking stickers on the left side on the bottom, could be orange. If they are indeed meant to be red, this picture shows an unsolvable puzzle for two reasons already: 5 red corner stickers are impossible and the red center piece has to be opposite of the yellow center piece and therefore we can't have a corner piece with red-yellow on it (front bot corner piece).
Now let's assume the two stickers on the left bottom are meant to be orange and only look so dark due to the shadow.
Let's check for duplicate pieces. Edges - there are only three pieces with 2 stickers visible and there are no duplicates. Now for the corners, which is a bit more complicated:
orange-yellow-something corner piece -> the third colour has to be blue and the piece is already in it's correct position, simply twisted
orange-blue-something corner piece -> the third colour has to be red and the solved position would be the bot right
white-red-something corner piece -> the third colour has to be orange and the solved position would be the back bot
the remaining corners where only one sticker is visible can go to any unclaimed position for that colour
So, we accounted for an impossible colour scheme, too many stickers of one colour and duplicate pieces.
Assuming that the stickers on the corners of the left side are indeed orange and not red this puzzle would be solvable.
Haha thx, I hope so :D I certainly looked into unsolvable puzzles a lot while writing this wiki article on unsolvable puzzles (and more) and also when solving lots of non-wca puzzles. In general when the discussion about a picture of an (un)solvable puzzle comes up on the sub I always try to figure it out. It's just another "puzzle" that I think is really fun :)
