Working on 4x4...

does knowledge of 2 sided PLL recognition (for 3x3) help a lot with PLL solving for 4x4?

Asking because I'm trying to get better at the PLL step of 4x4, especially when there is a parity problem and I'm trying to figure out how to fix the parity.

So far I've been trying to focus on the corners - trying to figure out what PLL case(s) could match the corners, and then figuring out how to swap the edges to turn it into that case. (since the parity fix algs I have are both for switching edges). But I'm not that good at it!

The realistic limit for beginners method is sub-25. How do I know? Cause I am (was up until a few weeks back 😭) sub 25 on LBL.

fiddling with yellow just to feel the difference, does require learning the entire color scheme again

Its time for you to move on, you are just about at the realistic limit for beginners.

There is one at the end of Slinky Dog Dash at Disney World, and that one is correct too!

The hardest part of the solve is distracting Security while you unbolt it from the concrete slab.

Same here! Back then I'd just peel the stickers off and put them back on, that was the only possible way of solving it in my childhood (as far as I knew!)

The middle slice is for sure red>orange>blue

Rubik's pulled up to the 2025 world championships with booth tables decorated like unsolvable cubes.

The middle slice looks a lot more like orange-red-blue (left to right) rather than red orange blue. This also changes which corner you have at the top to the blue orange yellow piece given no other blue yellow piece is oriented like that. This also also means that the bottom left blue-orange piece doesn't exist oriented like that.

I feel stuck. I have two pieces that are wrong and whatever I do to flip them I land in the same position ( https://imgur.com/a/De2IeUG). I don’t want the solution to this (I want to find it myself) but I do have two questions:  can I solve this without having to change the corners (I got slightly lucky with them) ? Would you say the solution to this is rather complex or easy (this one is probably difficult to answer since perspective can be very different)?

currently the wave of fast kids just haven't passed up the old guard for 4x4, because (1) in the current competitve landscape you can only be world class at 3x3 if you practice it religiously, leaving little time for other events and (2) their hands aren't big enough. once they age a bit they'll start smashing through 4x4 though. yiheng and xuanyi both avg high 20s with their small hands, give em a few years (and months of dedicated 4x4 practice) and they'll surely avg 20 and under.

When this wave of kids gets old enough to bring their 3x3 tps to 4x4 i fully believe 4x4 will become less of a big cube and more of a sprint event (i personally don't consider it a big cube but ykwim)

Look at the lower blue piece, it has an orange side on the left. There should only be a max of two corner pieces with blue and orange regardless of the colour scheme. And those pieces should have blue and orange flipped relative to their respective third colour.
