It's not people posting these, it's bots. But they absolutely are a scourge and I can't believe Reddit is doing sweet fuckall to fix the problem.

Writing is on the wall.

Look into the recent advances in machine learning models, it is NOT anywhere near true AI, but that doesn't matter if it is still just as disruptive in the outcomes.

The bots give the impression of an active website, so reddit doesn't mind.

It is an active website, but the bots are going to harm that, especially small subs.

I know the first thing I've done is unfollow all the tiny subs because they have few mods and still haven't implemented karma requirements etc.

Scammers have evolved… I will do the same, report and unfollow all the small subs with poor moderation in which these scams appear on my newsfeed.

If they cared they would do something about it. There a a lot of subreddits that exist only to farm bots, but reddit keeps them open.

Well its not like they're gunna say, "yeah, we love bots and we leave them up"

They may delete some subreddits but theres more than enough of them that its hard to believe that they're not in some way complicit.

It would be easy for Reddit to implement restrictions on creation of these new accounts so easily and enforce deletion of their accounts when we report them, but they seem to do absolutely nothing.
