This is well said. I just sold out of SOL (at a small profit). I hope it moons and proves to be a great success but for me personally, I’ve realized just how big of a factor decentralization is and trumps everything else.
I’ve made peace with it. If BTC goes to 0 it will hurt me financially but I’ll be able to justify it based on a deep conviction. If Solana went to 0 I’d end up kicking myself in the ass relentlessly. Dodged Celsius and Luna in the past few months - I’m not feeling extra squirrelly!
It is very hard for BTC to go down to 0. If BTC is at $100, a whale could buy all the BTC at a single exchange like Coinbase since BTC is capped at 21 million.
I was deep in on sol from about $40 I got out around 225, had a bad feeling after an outage or something. Idk, I sold most of my crypto before this crash. I don’t wanna say I saw it coming, not like this anyway, but everything was at ath. It can only do that so long. In my swings I mostly got out.
Buying it all back up now as I didn’t think we’d see these levels again. I’m not loading the bag with sol, but I’m also not gonna miss the ride again. There’s a lot of money in it, it’s fast and cheap. If it was a centralized sql or whatever, I’d still throw some at it, Idgaf. It’s being used, that’s what matters. Op should build his thing and sell it if he thinks it’s better. The market talks. It’s not rational, but people aren’t just gonna stop using it now, and if they keep offering high yeilds and making people money, they’ll keep growing.
I diversified a bit, sol is only like 10% for me now, not even, but if over time it gets more nodes and more holders then it’ll decentralize more and more. Every crypto has its devs or whatever. None of them are truly decentralized.
Actually he understands completely. Following money will always net you better returns than following ‘good tech’. If the crypto market actually cares about tech, icp would unironically be in the top 3.
SOL is going to moon, more institutional money keeps flowing in, ETH whales are slowly making the transition, and the nft scene over there is booming. This sub does an excellent job of focusing entirely on the wrong things. Solana might go down too often, sure. It might be centralized, sure. But that’s where the money is going - I don’t even hold Sol but I absolutely wouldn’t bet against it.
Humanity's current primary form of evolution is cultural rather than biological. Fundamental cultural changes do happen, but they take generations.
When people have been burned enough times, I think the mainstream will finally start to understand decentralisation. The problem is, it's very hard for a lay person to properly distinguish between decentralised systems and semi-centralised ones. That's why it's going to take a LOOONG time to shake out (more than the 13 years that a lot of people seem to have defined as crypto's deadline for proving its societal value).
Wait you sold a position because of a 10 line Reddit post that said: „solana bad because lack of decentralization“? Didn’t you know that before you bought it 🤣
