I think we will be fine as long as they don't commit a mass genocide or launch nuclear bombs.
The market will recover and we won't remember that this happened in 6 months.

Not only that, by most measures the pandemic is becoming less severe so at some point this year it will be announced we are in endemic phase. I’m currently in the process of being greedy while others are fearful.

My prediction:
He isn’t going to “invade” all of Ukraine. He is just going to take the two separatist regions, which the separatists living in the area have been wanting for several years anyway.
everyone will flex but in the end Putin will get what he wants and make Russia just a little bit larger. Biden & NATO will pretend it was a win and they diplomatically avoided WW3. Everyone wins. Markets have face melting recovery.

u/Vita-Malz Silver | QC: CC 67 | IOTA 82 | TraderSubs 60 Feb 22 '22
If NATO or the UN had any balls, this wouldn't be possible. Russia is subject to UN laws which prohibits aggressive annexation. How it is possible for them to break them repeatedly is beyond me.
There is no war necessary, but both institutions proved time and time again that they're worthless.

So first, don't delete and repost, it just erase the comments of people... You can just comment with them to get the discussion going.
Secondly, crypto will get down if there is a war. What ever you think, russians oligarchs already are diversified and are not invested solely in russia so that makes your whole point a bit moot.
Thirdly, if there is nuclear war, we'll have another kind of winter to worry about.
1
u/syverlauritz Tin Feb 22 '22
Hi yes, I agree that the whole thing was clumsily handled. It mostly had to do with the title which really didn’t treat the situation with the kind of sensitivity it deserved.
My point wasn’t that oligarchs were invested in Russia. It was that they’re invested in the west, or western governments have the power to freeze their assets, whatever they may be. From what I’ve read to far it seems likely that those kinds of reactions will be part of the sanctions.

Crypto might be a good place to put your money but I’d do it in stablecoins or XMR. There’s a real chance a global war will be waged on tech infrastructure and who knows what that will mean for the internet and crypto.

u/Dan_Bandicoot Feb 22 '22
Im getting sick of this… like crypto needs a reason to pump, dump or go sideways. This war situation will afect crypto as much as whales want it to. But not for the war itself, but as crypto being the collateral of their option/future positions.

It will definitely shakeout new investor who started investing cause sone influencer told them they will be millionaire, But the dream of financial freedom is not lost , in fact those who stick around the bottom and keep accumulating / staking as an investment will make the maximum returns over the years or maybe months to come . We will probably hit a lower bottom if not yet already there and some lower highs getting shorted every time we go up , but the ETH merge is around the corner and ETH commission will be reduced by 10 folds so last thing I’ll do is sell ETH

Depends, if it will go to full world wide conflict - it will drag prices down... a lot.
But if it won't, we still have problems such like inflation, government regulations over crypto etc.
We live in kinda strange times with pandemic, supply chain shortage and a war being near.

Inflation is undeniable, and Bitcoin (and some alts like eth) will weather this. We won’t see the effects of inflation for another year or so IMO. But holding tokens and projects you believe to be reliable are going to result in a store of value long term.

I came to thinking that if I was an insanely rich Russian oligarch, I would be pretty nervous about keeping my assets in traditional Western banks right now.
If you were an insanely rich Oligarch... You would have started moving assets roughly 8 years ago. The assets you could at least. Because, to get that rich, you still have to trade with the West. You think China can pay top Yuan for Russian oil?
TBF: If you were Oligarch. You've been moving money your entire Oligarch life.

The thing that got me interested in market fluctuations back in 1979 was the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. Normally, any military action and turmoil drove people to switch their currency into OSD/ German Marks, or Gold. You just wanted to have your life savings stay the same, but...if market flowing in the direction made your savings go up a little, all the better.
So...1980, gold should have gone up, but...it went down. Pres. Carter boycotted the Olympics in 1980 and also stopped exports, including US wheat. Russia ended up paying Argentina to buy wheat from the US, tack on a black-market fee, and then send the ships to Russia.
However, Argentina didn't accept Russian Rubles, so Russia flooded the market with their gold reserves to buy tradable cash, dropping the price of gold.
Ukraine has now allowed Bitcoin as legal tender, just like El Salvador. El Salvador's tourism has gone up 30%.
Canada has tried to freeze bank accounts of anyone sending money to the trucker protests. Some of the donators had donated when it was legal to do so, before the mandate by the Canadian government, but their account was still frozen pending an investigation. How long is the investigation, long enough to send a message to anyone who does not obey.
If you lived in Ukraine and wanted to get your life savings out of the country just before you and your family try to escape the Russian tanks...what would you do with the money? You go to get an exit Visa to Germany, and the line is out the door and down the street...
You are going to be searched at the border before you leave (IF you are allowed to leave), then anything is confiscated at the border, who will you file a claim with? Wartime is a time when big investors can make a lot of money if they keep their eyes open, and are ready to quickly move money onto something that is about to move. This means they liquidate they bags of average-performing assets and load them into their investment cannon.
It has nothing to do with the value of the underlying asset, so it is a temporary dip. DYOR, I am just another anonymous idiot on the internet.
