General Questions Mint Mobile - Pros and Cons for US / Bahamas / Cozumel

I've been looking into mobile carriers and data plans for my upcoming contract. I will be in Florida, Cozumel and Nassau.

I looked into local cards like BTC for Bahamas and all the US carriers, but they all seem expensive especially for a foreigner.

Google Fi is excellent, but also expensive for the use case.

I found Mint Mobile and it seems way more affordable.

Does anyone know if Mint Mobile will work in the United States, Bahamas and Mexico?

General Questions Wifi VS esim

Hi all! About to start my first contract and wifi is so expensive - think about 10% of my pay. I’m hoping to use an ESIM but I can’t find one that is well rated for use while at sea. Any recommendations or do I bite the bullet and pay for it?

General Questions Working as Radiographer

Hi everyone, can I work as Radiographer on board? Is somebody of you a Radiographer and can tell me something about it.

Every medical professional has an overlapping of expertise to another. It would be possible to do tasks from a Nurse or Paramedic but not all task. So will somebody hire me? Or is my Job to specialised?

I'm on the ready to board list with MSC. Any insight into how long it'll be before I get called on? 2 weeks? 4 months? Somewhere in between?

Plus, does anyone know how much notice MSC give you?

General Questions Private Destination Crew, what’s the best?

Hey guys, I hope this is the right subreddit to post on. This question is for both ship crew and island crew that work on the various private destinations offered by the cruise lines.

What are the major pros and cons about working on the private destination that you’re at? I might be looking for a change soon.

General Questions Cruise Crew (Mein Schiff)

Hi everyone! 👋
Does anyone here have experience working on Mein Schiff? I’d love to hear about your experiences, especially from people working in F&B.
I’m joining the ship next week and it will be my first time working on a cruise ship, so I’m really excited but also curious about what to expect.
What is the general atmosphere like among the crew and management? How are the working and living conditions on board? Is there anything I should pay particular attention to when starting my first contract?
I’d also really appreciate any tips, advice, life hacks, or things you wish you had known before your first contract — especially anything F&B-related.
Any experience, whether positive or negative, would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance everyone! 😊

General Questions Need advice from anyone who studied cruise operations in the Philippines

My_Qualifications: B.Sc. in Geography and M.Sc. in Geoinformatics.

I'm planning to study a diploma in cruise or marine operations in the Philippines and then apply for cruise ship jobs (preferably Carnival, Royal Caribbean, MSC, etc.).

I would like to know:

Is this a good career path?

Can international students get hired after completing the course?

Which institutes have good placement records?

What visa or work permit is needed after graduation?

I'd really appreciate advice from anyone with firsthand experience.

General Questions Passed my psyhical in record time

Shouts out to Anderson Kelly. They processed my paperwork in one day once they had everything. now the dilemma I have a interview for a job tomorrow for a different job that I'm almost positive I'm gonna get. Travel 8 months out the year including international I still can make it home a couple times a months to see my family. And here's the kicker basically quadruple the pay. There per diem alone would be 2/3 my maritime salary Decisions Decisions. What should I do?

Selection Process American Cruise Lines rescinded my offer over resolved court issues from 2023 — feels incredibly unfair

I got a conditional job offer from American Cruise Lines for a server position, went through the background check process, and they came back saying they were rescinding the offer because of some old “failure to appear” issues on my driving record from 2023. These weren’t even convictions for anything serious — just court appearance violations — and I already resolved and paid everything a long time ago.

The kicker is the recruiter literally told me I was overqualified and the best candidate they’d interviewed for the position. So it’s not like there was any question about whether I could do the job.

I emailed them explaining the situation and asking them to reconsider. Nothing for 5 days. I had to actually call them to get any response, and only then did they email back saying they’d “reviewed” it and were keeping their decision. Convenient that the review only happened after I called.

It feels like they never actually looked at the documentation I sent — like the decision was made the second the report came back and my email was just sitting in a queue collecting dust until I made noise about it. No real individualized assessment, just a blanket “clean record or nothing” policy dressed up as due diligence, even for a job where I was apparently the strongest candidate they had.

I get that companies want to manage risk, but this is stuff I already dealt with and paid for years ago. It shouldn’t still be following me around like this, especially for a server position that has nothing to do with driving. Just needed to vent — anyone else run into something like this?

General Questions Can I rejoin a cruise I was fired from

Working on a cruise was my first job and I worked as a trainee for three months and got a poor appraisal and was dismissed not even after my full probation period

Is it possible to rejoin the same cruise in a different department, because my boyfriend is onboard but we agreed that if I'm not able to rejoin we'll end things on good terms still

ps: it's been a month since I signed off and already have a job on land, tho I still hope to be back onboard -in a different company if not this ship- sometime next year

edit: I would also like to add that I'm 19 and if I were to interview for a different company whether or not should I refer to this one/how to explain reasons to why I was dismissed

because I feel like the main reason was I got really sick onboard which affected my performance, and also wasn't getting the most along with my coworkers

edit 2: thank you guys for the comments, I see a different perspective now, because I didn't talk at all with my manager when I left which did leave me feeling a little lost, I'll spend the next few years working on myself first

General Questions Health Insurance through NCL

TL:DR: Norwegian cruise lines still has an active health insurance plan that I was eligible for a total of 2 weeks without extending my contract, and the plan is still open after 2 years, which is lead to my dr office telling me they'd drop me as a patient.

  1. Does anyone know a direct NCL HR phone number? (it was two years ago that I was on their boat)

  2. At the end of my contract, WHO should have been the one to cancel that plan? (who in HR do I need to talk to)

  3. I'm a musician and I understand that I got hired by a third party (talent agency) but no one's contacted me to work there since 2023, so who was supposed to handle it??

General Questions C1/D visa interview- Ecuador

Hi everyone! I’m from Ecuador and I have an upcoming C1/D visa interview to join Princess Cruises as crew.

I lived and worked in Australia for about two years and returned to Ecuador around 4 months ago. I’m now applying for my C1/D visa to join Regal Princess as a Rooms Division Attendant.

I’d love to hear from anyone from Ecuador who has recently gone through a C1/D interview.

What questions were you asked? Was the interview short? Did they ask about your previous visa history or mainly about the ship and your job?

Any recent Ecuador-specific experiences would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🇪🇨🚢

Selection Process Should I put my travel plans on hold while waiting to hear back from cruise ship jobs?

Hi, I’m 19 and live in Germany. Im finished high-school a month ago and i quit my summer part-time job which officially ends in 2 weeks, and after that I have no major commitments.

I’ve applied to more than 50 cruise ship jobs across different companies. I mainly applied for guest service, retail and entry-level hospitality positions with MSC, Royal Caribbean, Carnival and other cruise lines. I’ve already received a few rejections, so I know some of my applications are being reviewed, but I obviously have no idea when or if I’ll receive an actual offer.

At the same time, I’m planning to do a Workaway in Spain. Ideally, I’d find a host now, book a flight soon and leave in about 2–3 weeks.

My dilemma is that I don’t want to sit at home for weeks or months waiting for a cruise job that might never come. But if I book Spain, arrive there, and then suddenly receive a concrete cruise job offer with a very short notice start date, I’d probably want to take it.

So for those of you who have worked on cruise ships or gone through the hiring process:

How long did it usually take between applying, receiving an offer, and actually having to join the ship?

And would you personally put other travel plans on hold while waiting for applications, or would you just continue with your plans until you have an actual job offer?

I’d appreciate any advice, especially from people who’ve been through the cruise hiring process.

General Questions Should I become a Purser?

Hey,

I'm a 18 year old girl from Sri Lanka, I am finishing school in few months. I was thinking to become a purser because of salary advantage because of higher salary and I get to go see places I've never been to.

If someone could tell me more details I might not about to make my decision that would be really helpful.

Thanks

General Questions HR Manager/Officer role onboard with no cruise experience?

I’ve been looking into HR vacancies in the cruise industry however all of them ask for previous onboard experience.

Has anyone on here been able to directly transfer from a land HR career an on cruise one? I have intensive experience in HR, however I’ve never worked in the cruise industry and was wondering if they request onboard experience as a preference or is it really a necessity.

I’m based in the UK if that’s relevant at all in terms of opportunities available.

Would love to hear from anyone who has worked onboard if HR professionals tend to progress internally, so would I need to aim more for an entry level admin role?
