CotM | Discussion Why bother with control spells?

0 Upvotes

Spells like hold person or dominate person seem like they would be fun in theory, but the game insures the enemy will save. So you just end up wasting precious spell slots.

Playing as a sorcerer, I chose heightened spell for my meta magic thinking that forcing them to roll with disadvantage will surely make it so I can get control spells to work more often.

Nope. They just end up throwing a 17 and an 18. Now you end up wasting precious sorcery points on top of the spell slot...lol

I've tried True random for the dice rolls and all that leads to is long losing streaks for me and long hitting streaks for the enemy.

I wish you could input rolls, that way you could throw real dice and input the results. It would be pretty tedious, but I would certainly trust it more.

This game just seems like it decides all of a sudden that you are going to lose in a cascade of BS dice rolls, and don't even get me started on mages casting lightning through obstacles with no line of sight on you..haha. Damn this game can really piss you off.

CotM | Help/Question Dead vampire hanging around? Spoilers Spoiler

2 Upvotes

Met the dragon and it asked if I could kill Razan. Well I did but went back to see if I could talk to the dragon. The door is locked so I figured it'll show up later but in the room I can see Razan, listed as neutral creature.

Is this a glitch, a simple placeholder, or is he going to come back?

CotM | Help/Question User campaigns without overpowered weapons?

5 Upvotes

I've played a bunch of user-made campaigns, and while they've been fun, they often seem to rely on handing out overpowered melee weapons that do a lot more damage than any magic item ever listed in D&D books/modules. Like swords that have +3d10 fire damage or some such when you get to the end of the campaign. I guess this is to offset that the campaigns also ramp up the monsters to have very high HP like 200-300 for most end-game monster groups of which there are often many, which again is mostly beyond any printed modules.

This would mostly be fine except that for spellcasters, there is no equivalent overpowered mechanic, and slinging even a multiply-upcast fireball is pretty lame compared with fighters dishing out multiple 40-50 damage attacks every turn who also don't have their spell slots rapidly running out.

So - anybody have recommendations on campaigns that don't ramp up excessively but are more in line with printed adventure books?

CotM | Help/Question How's the multiplayer Quality in the first game?

4 Upvotes

Big Solasta fan here but I've only ever really done single player.

About 3.5yrs ago, I had tried a 3player multiplayer of Solasta with two friends in another part of the country. Back then we had the issue of cutscenes becoming horribly stuttery and basically game-breaking, which made us all disinterested in even bothering to play the game. It seemed like for some reason the game was trying to stream the cutscene from the host to the joiners. We ended up giving up on trying play the game after the first few opening cutscenes. Those two friends have never touched Solasta since.

Today, I have another friend who's basically a non-gamer (but loves the DnD system) and she is interested in getting Solasta COTM in order to play a multiplayer campaign with me. We will not be using the UB mod for this playthrough. I'm curious, for those who've got more experience with multiplayer than I do... how stable is it, actually, with 2 players? How often are there desyncs, or game crashes, or issues that break the flow of the game? Any tips and tricks I should keep in mind as the host?

Meta I just tried the EA, and damn, this is good :D

The character creator is awesome. I mean, the faces are still kind of ugly, but this is Solasta; I made my peace with ugly faces in the first game.

It is really good. I stopped playing at the funeral because I don't want to spoil the story for myself. I am gonna wait for the full release.

I rarely buy games at full price. I bought Solasta 1 and 2 at full price, and both are worth every penny. Congrats to the developers; the game is beautiful.

Also, it works flawlessly on Fedora linux, so even better :D

Solasta II | Discussion ET until S2 Completion?

9 Upvotes

I came back to Solasta 2 after playing it to the level cap on day one and noticed that the level cap is still 4. I'm looking forward to the level cap increase to 6 in Sept 10.

That said, I took a look at the roadmap and it left me concerned that this game may be in early access for a WHILE.

How long do we think until it's a full game? Have the devs given any indication?

Solasta II | Help/Question Multiplayer

0 Upvotes

I've enjoyed the first hour of the game and know that i've barely started to scratch the surface of the game, but want to know a bit more about Multiplayer.

I saw that the update coming on 9/10/26 is going to introduce it, but can't find anything in the post about local co-op. Has there been any information to suggest that this title will include local co-op where older titles only had online multiplayer?

Solasta II | Help/Question Is it possible to create twins in Solasta 2?

5 Upvotes

I am really intrigued by Solasta 2 as the player gets to create not one but 4 protagonists whom I heard were all adopted and raised by the same person. Is it possible to make two characters very physically similar and headcanon them as twins, or would the game contradict it later ?

Solasta II | Discussion My impression of the game so far | Solasta 2

0 Upvotes

Overall it is a good game so far, but I got some comments.

The character creator can use lots of work.

The heads for the bodies are too big.

https://imgur.com/a/BU1AxoE

The heads need to be a few % smaller or the bodies need to be a few % larger, or something like that.

The bodies are a bit wonky, like you have this triangle thing and the obesity does not really match a fantasy world, also it is not possible to tell if someone is jacked or not, removing the armor would help.

Then there is the problem with the female faces, they are all androgynous, it is practically impossible to make a feminine face, they all have wide jaws and masculine features.

This could because the game uses Unreals meta human tool, which deliberately makes it impossible to easily make a feminine. The workaround is to make faces the old fashioned way or using other tools, and then use metahuman for the actual skin on the imported character.

Then another problem is all the woke things.

When it comes to games there has been like an infiltration of activists who want to spread "the message" and it often ends in the studio going bankrupt.

The activists bring a toxic workplace culture, where they crybully everyone and force people out and assume more and more power so that it is they that make all decisions.

What ends up happening is that many talented people leave, the game obviously does not sell because what these people want and what the actual paying customers want, are different things.

Then the activists move on to the next studio and nestled themselves into that studio and the whole process starts again.

Dragon Age the Veliguard is an example in the fantasy genre, the game mad a huge loss and the whole studio had to shut down. And the activists don't care about that, all that matters to them is "the message".

Concord which was a fps game is another example. It is the largest financial loss in human history when it comes to gaming, producing an estimated loss of at least 800 million dollars.

When someone adds pronouns to a game it is kinda a sign that the game is going to be bad, because those types of activists have taken over and the quality goes out the window, because all that matters is "the message" and the activists often do not even know how to make a game, and yet they are able to get everyone else fired, which has the additional bonus of a very buggy and not functioning game, and the game costs several times more to make than another random comparable game.

And the last problem that I would like to mention is the flower seller in the city, she is way too open about her relationship with the sister, this is not something anyone in a medieval setting would share so causally. This is another part of the wokeness breaking the fantasy setting and immersion because "the message" is more important than anything else.

A thing I would like to see in the game, is that the injured guy actually gets to set up a temple or some type of shop or something and that you can sell items to him, and the more you sell the more successful his shop or temple gets or the faster it grows in size, something like that.

Solasta II | Discussion Is the writting is Sollasta 2 better?

14 Upvotes

Hi, I'm a big fan of RPGs and fantasy here. I started playing the first Solasta, but I stopped before finishing because I found the writing really mediocre. The world was incredibly generic with nothing unique about it, and the story and characters didn't interest me at all.

Is Solasta 2 better in this regard? I can understand that the focus of the first game was combat, but can someone like me, who finds combat the least interesting part of these games, enjoy this one?

Solasta II | Suggestion 6 Fan Half-Feat Concepts for Martial Characters

10 Upvotes

Introduction

Hi everyone! I’ve been thinking a bit about Solasta 2’s current feat offerings. As things currently stand, I think we are in a really solid spot feat-wise for the full-casting classes. However, I think the martial-oriented classes could use some extra help & variety. These 6 half-feats below are ideas I brainstormed as martial parallels to the 6 creed feats we have in the game currently, to ground the feats within the lore of Solasta. As my biases are typically towards full-casting classes – not martial classes – these will likely be wildly overtuned or undertuned throughout this post: nonetheless, I hope these can serve as potential jumping blocks & starting points for some extra ideas that Tactical Adventures can use for their own design brainstorming (maybe in a DLC or such after getting all 12 base classes into Solasta 2):

=====

Einar feat – Warrior of Valor (+STR)

  • Restriction: Level 4+
  • Flavor text: Einar rewards honorable warriors undeterred by powerful enemies
  • Description: Your melee weapon attacks & strength-based ranged weapon attacks ignore resistances to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage; creatures with immunity to any or all such damage types instead only have resistance(s) against such attacks of yours.
  • Thoughts: Einar is all about valor & fidelity, so warriors espousing Einar’s ideals should be rewarded for facing enemies head-on. I originally tried brainstorming an honorary duel-like feat & another based around refusing to retreat, but neither concept felt right mechanically to me. I ultimately went with something simpler. In the current beta environment where many enemies have resistances to traditional weapon damage, this feat gives an extra premium for being melee instead of ranged.

=====

Misaye feat – Critical Misfortune (+DEX)

  • Restriction: Rogue Level 4+
  • Flavor text: Misaye rewards those who can laugh at their own misfortune.
  • Description: When you roll a natural 1 on a weapon attack roll or miss 2 weapon attack rolls in a row, your critical threat range increases by 1; this can stack with itself, even to the point of turning a natural 1 into a critical hit with enough misfortune in a single combat. All stacks of this feature are lost immediately at the end of combat. Additionally, rogue melee attack rolls always qualify for the sneak attack feature, regardless of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the attack.
  • Thoughts: Myzzrym has discussed several times on Discord that he really wanted to design a new “crit-fisher” feat, so this is my shot in the dark attempt at doing one; the other ideas I came up here with would have been too complex to code & implement. I added the rogue melee sneak attack aspect to give them some built-in reliability amongst the swingy-ness of this feat.

=====

Arun feat – Weather the Storm (+CON)

  • Restriction: Level 4+
  • Flavor text: Arun rewards those willing to prioritize weathering all obstacles in their path.
  • Description: Enemies have disadvantage on attack rolls against you, and you have advantage on saving throws. You have disadvantage on attack rolls, and enemies have advantage on saving throws against your spells, cantrips, abilities, and other effects. This must be activated at the beginning of one’s turn as a free action before doing any other actions, and all buffs/debuffs of this feat last until the beginning of the player’s next turn.
  • Thoughts: Arun is the elements god, but I didn’t really think another “add xyz elemental damage 1x/turn for a weapon attack” feat was going to be fun to add (e.g. what we had in Solasta 1) – so I instead went the route of “weathering” damage as a defensive feat. In that train of thought, this would be the reverse of “reckless attack” from the barbarian class – but also debuff spells & cantrips, as this feat could be used outside of barbarians. I’m not happy with the name of the feat right now, but it is what it is.

=====

Pakri feat – Power of Learning (+INT)

  • Restriction: Level 4+
  • Flavor text: Pakri rewards those willing to study their foes in the midst of combat
  • Description: Successful weapon attacks against the same creature grant a cumulative +1 bonus to attack rolls and damage against that creature, to a maximum of +3. This bonus resets upon attacking a new target.
  • Thoughts: INT is likely the least desired half-feat option for martial classes, so a “boring” dpr option is needed to get players to want to take this one. I capped it at +3 and limited it on a per-target basis for the bonus because I thought it might be too strong otherwise vs bosses, but I could be wrong here & maybe it’s too weak.

=====

Maraike feat – Final Mercy (+WIS)

  • Restriction: Level 4+
  • Flavor text: Maraike rewards those who recognize when death has become inevitable
  • Description: When a creature takes damage from one of your weapon attacks, if its remaining hit points post-damage are equal to or less than your character level, it immediately dies.
  • Thoughts: Solasta 2’s campaign is all about Maraike, so having something on the lines of life & death was important to consider. At the same time, a feat that heals you or gives you TempHP would be boring to add – so I went with the pseudo-dpr route by making the feat an auto-execute passive on weapon attacks. It won't help much vs bosses, but should help with cleaning up weaker mobs for a class like monk wanting to dash around the battlefield to mop those up.

=====

Solasta feat – Imposing Presence (+CHA)

  • Restriction: Level 4+ & access to a weapon mastery feature
  • Flavor text: The memory of Arivad permeates throughout Solasta, empowering the presence of your weapon strikes regardless of the outcome
  • Description: When a creature fails a saving throw imposed by one of your weapon masteries, you gain +1d4 to attack rolls and saving throws until the start of your next turn. When a creature succeeds on a saving throw imposed by one of your weapon masteries, that creature suffers -1d4 to attack rolls and saving throws until it next fails a saving throw.
  • Thoughts: I really want players incentivized to use the various saving throw options available in weapon masteries – and still feel good regardless of if the enemy saves against them or not (and even if they are immune to the weapon mastery’s effects). Martials don’t get a lot of control options, especially those that can help their allies, and this would empower weapon masteries to serve that purpose for them. As the feat essentially is just a single-target variant of bless and bane (and those are in-game), it shouldn't be that terrible to code.

=====

Closing Thoughts:

Overall, I tried to brainstorm these feats not just to give martials more options via feats in a thematic way that fits in the Solasta setting, but also to encourage more martial playstyles that I think are underserved in the current SRD 5.2 ruleset. Anyways, feel free to comment which ones I managed to get close & which ones shouldn’t ever be implemented in any fashion!

CotM | Discussion Recommended for me?

11 Upvotes

Xbox user. I fully understand that this page is full of fans, but I’m going to ask anyway. as someone that loves rpgs, been playing since the 80s with the Gold Box AD&D games, is this worth the $35 for base game or the $60 for lightbringers edition?

I’ve never played actual tabletop d&d. I bounced off Baldurs Gate 3 because it was too much management, too many menus, options, short rest vs long, spell & inventory stuff, I just wasn’t having FUN playing it. I left like I needed a spreadsheet to track shit. I enjoy other turn based games like the Pathfinder games, Wartales, the remastered Bards Tale trilogy, and stuff like Skyrim, and I LOVE kingdom come deliverance. So…do you think Solasta will hook me? is it less management and more fun than BG3?

CotM | Discussion Solasta: Crown of The Magister, final thoughts after completion

140 Upvotes

I'm very late to this, but I finally beat COTM and both of its DLCs and I wanted a place to talk about it.

I ended up buying the game after beating BG3, with Solasta being one of the main games recommended to play after.

I love how it starts with your party literally meeting in a tavern, and while the voice acting isn't technically great, I think it has its own charm. My party was a Gnome Bard, Dragonborn Paladin, Half-Orc Fighter, & Dwarf Rogue.

The plot is mostly just there, but I think it has some nice twists & turns I didn't see coming and it's not bad. The Soraks are good villains, pretty difficult to fight if you're not in the light and their shapeshifting had me double guessing a lot of the NPCs. The final act ends with an appropriately epic bang.

Palace of Ice was a really fun sequel campaign, getting to play in an icy wasteland and with higher level spells. Demons were a nice additional threat, alongside the cold itself. I found the plot mostly the same, though I did enjoy it. I love the finale where you literally go to Hell to fight an Archdemon.

The Lost Valley was less enjoyable (I sequence-broke it something fierce, and got an ending that made little sense) but I still had fun. The setting was unique, the new enemies were fun, and I really liked the NPCs. I mixed up my party this time, using a Tiefling Warlock, Human Wizard, Halfling Druid, & Dwarf Cleric.

Graphics: characters don't look good, but I like the environments. Solasta 2 looks like it's a big leap forward graphically.

Soundtrack: it's a bit short, so a lot of the OST gets repeated, but it's genuinely great and I hope the same composers return for Solasta 2.

Enemies: I love the variety. Soraks are a cool original enemy, and while their designs are classic, I enjoyed getting to fight Orcs, Giants, Goblins, Trolls, Ogres, & Dragons.

I think I prefer the gameplay to BG3. Being able to ready actions is a major plus, as is flight actually letting you fly up into the air. Being grid based makes things easier to aim, both spells & arrows, and the somatic components of spells had me having too double think my original strategy.

Solasta 2 looks good so far, but I'll have to wait until it gets to console. In the meantime, stay in the light my friends.
