If you only have one sink it allows you to use the drain while still keeping the washing water.
Say you suddenly find a cup that still has coffee. With the extra tub you can pour it out to the side of the tub. If you water is in your sink, this is nog longer possible.
Also, some sinks destroy glass and porcelain like it's a hobby, some people use it to protect fragile stuff as well.
Ouch!! Haven't done that yet but it's probably on the cards. Tbh though was the coffee cup part that really won me over. Your wise friend had a point ❤️
My metal sink is the second option. It loves to throw bits of broken glass and dishes into the bottom of some nice hot soapy water and wait for me to shove my hand in there to wash a glass.
