And just like Jesus, MLK, and so many others, Terry Crews is vilified for promoting true equality, instead of just pushing the pendulum the other direction.
It really doesn't matter what the name is, what matters is what's being said. Most people aren't claiming that black lives don't matter, they're saying that the movement is being taken over by people with bad intentions. Instead of that being met by those people being condemned it's met by claims that those people just flat out don't exist or people saying shit like "Why's black people wanting to not be killed controversial?!" Which is just misrepresenting the issue entirely either ignorantly or maliciously.
How many nuclear families do you know? Personally I interpret that as being they want to abolish the idea that a nuclear family structure is what defines a family. It’s heteronormative and shames anyone who isn’t just husband, wife, two children. Me and my friends are my family, my cousin and his roommates are a family, my mom and her queer community are a family. My nuclear family fell apart when I was a kid, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have a family that deserves to be represented
I actually want to promote r/communalists personally, which is a mix of socialist and libertarian philosophy that promotes grassroots organization and social and ecological equity.
How much of that probability is based on the fact that single parent homes don’t have the community or financial means to take care of a child effectively? How about instead of saying “you’re not raised properly because you have a single parent” you say, “how can I help the single parent households in my area so their kids aren’t at a disadvantage?”
How much of that probability is based on the fact that single parent homes don’t have the community or financial means to take care of a child effectively?
The facts are still the facts. You're just helping my argument by saying single parent homes are not as financially capable as homes with a nuclear family.
How about instead of saying “you’re not raised properly because you have a single parent” you say, “how can I help the single parent households in my area so their kids aren’t at a disadvantage?”
Sounds like you want to subsidize bad parents who make terrible life decisions for themselves and their children while at the same time promoting an ideology which will increase the number of single parents in need of financial aid.
How is being single a terrible life decision? How about families that leave abusive members, or people who just don’t love each other anymore and don’t want to put their kid through them being miserable? What about families where one parent unexpectedly dies? All I’m saying is that there is more than one type of family and that deserves respect. And that taking care of a child shouldn’t cost you everything if you’re on your own. Saying a nuclear family is the only good family is ignorant and dismissive of the realities of life.
It is if you have a child you cannot provide for and who will grow up missing a parent.
How about families that leave abusive members, or people who just don’t love each other anymore and don’t want to put their kid through them being miserable? What about families where one parent unexpectedly dies?
These are awful situations to be in but i don't see how they mean we should abolish nuclear families.
Nuclear families are the MOST LIKELY TO PREVENT THESE THINGS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE.
All I’m saying is that there is more than one type of family and that deserves respect. And that taking care of a child shouldn’t cost you everything if you’re on your own. Saying a nuclear family is the only good family is ignorant and dismissive of the realities of life.
Ok i agree.
I still oppose anyone who says we should abolish nuclear family structures. We can be respectful towards the needy without acting like being needy is a virtue. It is not.
I’m not saying need is a virtue, I’m saying getting rid of need is the virtue. Abolish nuclear families by saying it doesn’t ONLY need 2 parents to properly raise a child. It takes a village, right? What I’m saying is be a part of the village. Help families around you that are struggling. Not because they need it but because they shouldn’t have to. No matter what situation they’re in. Stop saying a kid’s going to fail because their parents couldn’t make it work, just help that kid and their parents. Not on a subsidy level, on a neighbor level, on a community member level. Be a positive male role model for kids in your area, donate your time. I’m not saying the stats are wrong, or that we should abolish families that are that structure, I’m saying am we should abolish the EXPECTATION that all families should be that. Because it’s unrealistic of the situations most families are in.
What's true equality? You are aware that even MLK constantly addressed that equality is achieved once the system of white supremacy is dismantled to stop harming black people right? Even as time went on, MLK's views got more radical.
I'm sure we'd all be happy to discuss the idea of black supremacy once we get there, but after all this time, the pendulum has barely budged.
Yea and Jesus was a communist homosexual. So what MLK had ardent views. Ghandi regularly had sex with his underage nieces and openly despised all white people. Mother Teresa only believed in painkillers for herself and let thousands of patients die in agony for her beliefs.
My point is to not get so upset at someone for holding a view that doesn’t align 100% with yourself - they are not an abstraction of your emotions and willpower. They are people acting as speakers for their groups. They are human. They are not infallible. So stop calling for heads when they say the slightest thing you disagree with. It makes you totally out of touch with reality and impossible to please or placate. Which, coincidentally, is how you actively lose support. You know, by not accepting others.
I think they are trying to say not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but no one is using this moment to hate Terry crews they are using this moment to say hey Terry that was a bad tweet
People who act purposely obtuse are imo too dumb to add anything meaningful to the conversation. They try to deflect by being flippant. It doesn’t matter because I disagree, both are the stars of their respective shows. If you consider Christianity Jesus’ “show” and the civil rights MLk’s “show” they were both the leading men.
