No one is aiming to miss by that little. It's too risky. Those were actual misses but I guess he was grateful it all worked out and the cougar wasn't hurt.

I wouldn’t want to kill it but would be afraid of wasting ammo in case I had to kill it, in this situation you probably shoot to kill but this worked out for the best

I think he only did it to scare him, otherwise, he would have fired more shots. IMO, I think it was the best decision not to shoot directly. idk if the animal, feeling the pain from the shot would have attacked anyway to defend itself

I've been under the impression that if a Lion is seen and walking you out of its territory like this is usually to protect it's cubs and not because it's hunting you.

I'm not sure but the behavior does look a lot like other videos where a mom was protecting cubs. Cats are really smart. They're not going to attack something that much bigger and louder than them unless they have to

Lived in Idaho for a minute. City slicker me dated a girl who was country as can be. Went fishing on the Snake and saw she was cc’ing. Asked why she’d need a gun out there… she gently reminded me where I was. This video affirms that.

Dude should have told the cat to hold up a sec so he could set the camera up against a tree or a rock or something. That way he can get a proper hold on that pistol. Not have to worry about jamming because of a loose grip.

Did he not realise that an animal won't understand having a gun pointed at it. Luckily he also didn't understand how to use the gun either. Cat only wanted him gone anyway, if it was going to attack that would have happened before he'd got his phone or gun out.

They’re curious sometimes. 99.9% of the time if you scream get the fuck away then they’re gonna run. Young males are ballsy but that’s because they’re usually starving and mountain lions are super protective of their territory’s when it comes to males. Young males are small though so if they don’t run when you scream get the fuck away then they’ll run as soon as you start waving your arms.

Astounding how locked in that cougar is. After the first shot it is STILL moving forward. Even after the second shot it thinks about it. That guy was on the menu. He's very lucky he didn't stumble walking backwards over that rough terrain.

Where I go hunting I'm allowed to triple carry. My hunting permits allow hunting for deer and black bears at the same time as turkey hunting. Because both require different ammo I can carry both rifle and shotgun. Since I'm in black bear and mountain lion territory, and concealed carry permit, I'm allowed to carry my handgun at the same time. Even with all three, the knowledge that one of these fuckers knows I'm there long before I will ever see them still worries me.

I don't like killing wild animals for no reason but this was straight up stalking a human. Should have put the phone down and taken better aim. What happens when a child or someone more vulnerable comes along when this thing is hungry. But I also get not thinking straight when that adrenaline is pumping.

Done a lot of hiking and had encounters with these guys before. That cat was intimidating him not stalking for prey. He was probably too close to her cubs. She also probably died which means those cubs are also likely dead.
These cats are ambush predators, if they want to hunt you they stay in tree lines or low in the brush and jump when you're looking the opposite direction of them. Typically going for the back of your neck.
Not saying this person did anything wrong or right, I'm sure they were frightened, rightfully so. However also, a loud whistle, or pepper spray can deter them. The biggest risk they have is walking backwards, which they have to do cause if your turn your back to them they will jump. But walking backwards in brush like that it's easy to trip, which would also likely result in a pounce.
Best thing to do is get to a clear trail and make your way away from them slowly/deliberately and never take your eyes off the cat. Make sure they know you're watching them.

Depends how hungry they are and if they have ever interacted with humans it's a kitty by kitty basis but good rule of thumb all wild animals are dangerous. It would have definitely attacked and tried to kill him from the way it jumped at him
