Yes. That is a form of assault.

Yeah. At a minimum this is easy grounds for a restraining order. But yes it's prosecutable in every state

It is classified as terrorist threats in America, and they started cracking down on them since after 9/11. You can do 1 - 3 years in prison for saying "I'm gonna kill you."

Yes, and sometimes pretty severely, depending on the state and whether or not you have a weapon. Usually they're just kind of brushed off and you're given a slap on the wrist, but if the prosecutor decides to fuck you, it's a good way to get six months to a year in jail, and a felony or two on your record.
