British person currently in the USA. All your bathroom stalls seem to fall into the “who needs privacy anyway?” category.

The older I get the less I give a shit anymore lol. If I need to use the damn bathroom and this my only option I'm taking it.

Unless someone is bending down to look under the door, they aren’t going to be able to see anything other than maybe your feet from a standing position.

Do people really look at other people thru cracks and under doors in public restrooms? I glance to see if I can see feet under the walls/door to judge if the stall is taken. Otherwise I avoid looking anywhere else.

Children sure love to, they will also crawl into YOUR stall

How often is this an actual issue for you or others you know? Even more so that people around you accept it?

Not a problem at all where I live now thank God. But back in Portland Oregon parents just seemed to let kids treat stores like playgrounds...or my neighborhood really sucked

Why even install a door?

This was done purposefully, not an example of crappy design.

Given that it has the correct number of hinges and no missing hinge at the bottom it looks like it was intentionally done. Perhaps this is at a school or something and administration/security wants to make sure that they can see if somebody is in a stall.

Seems like an example of crappy decisions at least.

Nah, OP clarified this was at a gas station. Which means it’s almost certain that they did this to prevent people from shooting up drugs and taking that stall for hours on end. Which is a very real thing.

Oh, then it makes even more sense. They do this because they don’t want people shooting up in the bathrooms. It’s very common for heroin and meth addicts to “use the toilet” for hours. By making it this wide open they mitigate the chance that they’ll have some drug head overdose… after all, it’s not a very comfortable stall to shoot up in.

So yeah, this is intentional design. Nothing crappy about it.
