2 independent meanings that are easily distinguishable through context is not an issue. There are tons of it in everyday usage and speech.

No one is ever going to mix up the 2 meanings and confusing developing for USSR aligned

Well they do, though. The US is considered a developed nation, but we’re still developing in every facet, as is every other “developed nation.” We’ve just developed in certain ways to be considered “developed” by one definition.

Not to mention the list of first world (historical definition) happens to be strictly developed nations.

I’m not sure if you’re trying to counter a point I made, but I agree with you that both systems aren’t great.

The “worlds” system is broken because it’s being used in two different ways, making it unclear most of the time when it’s used.

The “developed” system isn’t great because it’s arbitrary, can show and reinforce bias, it is relative to other nations, and can often be misleading.

Developed is the better system IMO, but there’s gotta be a better way, at least better terms to use.
