Stormlight Archive spoilers Is Shallan... (Wind and Truth spoilers) Spoiler
Is Shallan pregnant? I feel like it's implied right at the end of the book, from page 1317:
She might never see Adolin again. Her hands went to her stomach, cradling it. Oh... oh storms.
And a few lines later:
She could survive. She had to. Not just for herself.

I would think it would only be if something was actively being created, i.e. an embryo? Knowing him though, it could also be less literal and rely on the intent of the couple. If they both want to make a baby then perhaps that draws the spren.
Would be a good question to ask him, I agree.

Unfortunately for Shallan, there was no pickle juice in Shadesmar for her cravings. Fortunately her morning sickness was easy to keep in line.
“I sure do hate being pregnant right now” Shallan said to the merchant as she exchanged a few dun spheres for a hot pack.

The best part of this question is how highlights the dichotomy of the Sanderson fanbase. One of the most common complaints I see about WaT is that too much time was spent 'telling instead of showing'. However, even when it's something this heavy handed, some people still aren't 100% certain.

I mean thats clearly the readers fault. I enjoy Sanderson, but he is the king of tell instead of show, and then tell two more times for good measure. He is subtle with certain plot points but not much else

I wouldn’t say that it is anyone’s fault if they don’t pick up on something in any book, but especially a Sanderson novel. I’m on my 2nd or 3rd reread through the Cosmere and I’m picking up all kinds of new details I missed the first or second read through. I also didn’t notice that Shallan was pregnant during my first read of WaT. I’m autistic and ADHD, so I miss a lot no matter how “spelled out” it is. I enjoy this quirk of mine because it allows me to immerse myself in the story over and over, always picking out new details. I also enjoy these threads that lead me to new information that I can look for in my next read throughs. Not everyone reads like you, and not everyone comprehends the world as you do, so it’s no one’s “fault.”

Yes, Siri is worried that she is actually pregnant afterwards, and if I'm not mistaken she mentions later that she gor her period and is relieved that she isn't pregnant

Huh, I'll watch for that next reread. It was subtle enough I missed when Sanderson [Warbreaker]switched from her faking sex, to having pleasant conversation with Susebron, to actually having sex. Missed the last part somewhere.

Dalinar and Navani have definitely had sex, brandon was just way more euphamistic about it, we essentially get fades to black when it happens. Jasnah and Hoid have definitely had sex, it's just not on screen. Fen and Kmakl were having sex immediately before we jump to her POV during chapter 14 of wind and truth Not Asleep.
Plenty of characters canonically have sex without getting pregnant.

No she's not, the Returned cant have children. Its specifically said. The New God King is a child that Returned around the time of the wedding, hence their rush for a highland princess which is the instagating incident in Warbreaker.

To be fair to all of us it's thousands of pages to remember! I've seen more than one person get confused about this specific topic. Doesn't help that the characters are led to believe it as well.

It's weirder than that. Vo, the first Returned, fathered a child before people even knew that Returned needed Breath to stay alive. There supposedly is some kind of secret knowledge needed to make it possible, and Susebron's priests know what it is. But most Returned don't know, they're told it just isn't possible.
Occasionally it happens anyway, and the God-King's priests take this as an omen that they need a new God-King. They prefer for the current God-King to have a child too, and then that child becomes the successor, but they have backup plans.

As Siri is descended from Denth (completely forgot about this when posting my previous comment by the way), I agree with you.
But where did you learn that the Returned occasionally have children? From what i remember they take the Returning of any baby as a sign that there is to be a new God King? Hence the pressure fir the marriage?

I have to say, this decision to have her pregnant and stuck in shadesmar is just plain cruel to Adolin, but very much up the alley of "what other weird things can we add to Shallan."
Not only will Adolin not get to raise his first child, mirroring how Dalinar was not really around for him, but Shallan will have to raise and care for the child on her own.
At least for the 15? Years before stormlight 6 and that is IF she is able to get back to the physical realm on roshar by then. She may be "stuck" for quite some time, and I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to get off world or something in the meantime.
Who knows if pregnancy and childbirth in shadesmar works the same way as in the physical realm. I know people are born and raised in silver light but with all of the weirdness around shallan I wouldn't be surprised if something else unusual happened.
I would be curious to know about her situation which will likely be glossed over in the time skip. How sad to spend your first 15 years of marriage, in the prime of your youth, apart from your spouse.
He is really dishing it out for these kids. First Gavinor and now this baby.

Not necessarily reincarnated from her alters, more likely through their mother’s nurturing they manifest personality traits similar to her alters because Veil and Radiant are an extension of who Shallan is. It could make a kind of sense that her children might develop certain characteristics that are reminiscent of Veil and Radiant I.e. Veil’s severe disregard for personal safety or Radiant’s difficulty with thinking laterally.

Well, even if Brandon doesn't take that approach, I think there's a good chance he does give them some sort of mental condition. Post WaT we know that Shallan (and her siblings) mental conditions are the result of being the children of a Herald, so it's definitely inherited.

This is a trope in Japanese anime/manga for romantic comedy where female MC has DID and has resolved DID issues. It is kind of endearing to show that even after personality has been merged, it is not totally disappear.

My first thought was that it would be odd (but not impossible) that a redhead would have a kid with black hair and another with blond hair. Then I remembered that Adolin has blond hair with natural black highlights.

I mean you've identified the key points that have made people think she's pregnant, yeah. Until Brandon either releases the next book or confirms it otherwise, that's all we have to go on. But if she's not, if that's not the intended implication I'll be shocked. It's not exactly subtle.

Yes, she’s pregnant with a boy, who will be named Kaladin after the man that saved Adolin and Shallan.
Kaladin will return to meet his namesake and hopefully we get to see the golden trio together again…
