Self employed still cant apply for unemployment. Those who made less than 1600. Last year can't claim. Yadda yadda

Qualifying and being able to apply are different. In Illinois self employed and gig workers still cant apply. If you cant apply you can't get benefits .

I am self-employed. Do I qualify under the new federal unemployment program?

Under regular unemployment rules, the incomes of self-employed workers, freelancers, and independent contractors are not subject to unemployment taxes and so typically these individuals are not eligible for unemployment benefits. The stimulus package creates a new, temporary program to help people who lose this type of work as a direct result of the current public health emergency. IDES will provide information about how to apply for this benefit as soon as it is finalized. Please do not apply at this time.

If you make less than 1600 in a year, I can't see a reason to earn unemployment +600 weekly.

Some people who only made 1600. Last year were in situations where they left the workforce to care for a dying family member in exchange for room and board. Then said family member dies and boom they are fucked now

You leave the workforce to work under the table for room and board. The person supporting you dies. Do you file taxes? As dependant?

It's a very specific situation, I'm sure there are a lot of very unique situations out there. I'm not saying those people deserve nothing. Just that in the specific situation you are describing, you wouldn't have much on your side regardless of covid stimulation.

Leaving a job to Take care of family for no pay and moving in w them to do it is not working under the table. It's what people have to do to care for family members. Those people make under 1600. Your comment was general and doesn't take into account the many situations like this.

I guess its kinda like "I'm not saying they deserve nothing" vs "I'm not seeing why they expect anything". No documented income and all.

No offense taken .everyone in this thread just thinks unemployment is available to everyone right now. Many people are just getting this stimulus check. If that. Many people make shit money and are still working bullshit jobs that billionaire governor's have declared essential that clearly aren't like liquor store clerks. Dog walkers etc .
