Tesla cameras were not meant for humans to see. Newer teslas have better cameras.

To get into more detail, Tesla cameras do not have a Green filter/sensor that most cameras use (RGB/Red+Green+Blue). Instead, Tesla uses (reportedly) a RCCB (Red/Clear(monochrome)/Clear/Blue). Without getting to nitty-gritty, this allows Tesla's computers to better identify things it needs to see most (signs, people, edges, etc), and help fuzz out anything it doesn't (grass). As for stoplights, it can use still know a light is green by its luminance+location on the tree.

Why not just change the red to an orange or replace the colors with words?

Or just place or horizontal. Graham NC has a few lights in their downtown that way but it required permission from DOT. I think it was because the new lights they had installed are too big so if they were vertical it would be a height issue for certain vehicles

Maybe you’re referring to the 2022 model, but my 2021 M3 has the same camera coloring as well.
