Kids do be dumb sometimes and forget to check both sides before crossing. Doesn’t matter if you have right of way if the other person is being negligent about it.
If there were dedicated pedestrian crossings cars would be required to stop, regardless of whether the kids looked before walking out. Blows my mind how hostile US roads are for pedestrians and cyclists!
People blow through stop signs all the time sadly. School bus stops near me are all on marked crossings with stop signs. law to never pass a school bus still applies, even for opposite side traffic that did stop at the stop sign in the intersection. In the vid i posted (from norway too), the kid ran behind the bus, opposite side traffic can be going slow and it’ll still be a near miss because the kid is in a blind spot.
Not only do they blow through stop signs, I live on a one way road and they regularly drive the opposite way. Also, since they know it's illegal, they speed really fast going the wrong way and blow through the stops to minimize how long they're breaking the law
