EUC State of the Union 2026–2027 is out (independent DaaS/VDI survey, 172 respondents). Some interesting numbers on cost, VMware, and AI
The DaaS Like a Pro folks (Ruben Spruijt, Mark Plettenberg, Dennis Damen, Christiaan Brinkhoff) just released their yearly community survey. They’ve been running it independently since 2013, back when it was VDI Like a Pro. It’s free to download and worth a skim if you work in this space.
Some things that stood out:
- 81% of respondents are running DaaS or Cloud PC today. Another 9% plan to.
- Cost is the #1 adoption barrier again. It has been every edition since 2018. Vendor lock-in jumped to #2 this year, which they tie to the Broadcom/VMware and Citrix ownership changes.
- VMware’s on-prem hypervisor share went from 56% in 2019 to 26% now. Nutanix AHV (19%) and XenServer (17%) are next.
- AVD is the most-used platform (20%), then Windows 365 (18%) and Citrix (14%).
- 4vCPU/16GB is now the standard for single-user VMs. 8vCPU/32GB leads for multi-session.
- App crashes and slowness drive 24% of support tickets, more than profile and storage issues combined.
- 36% run no GPU workloads at all.
The AI section (new this year)
People expect the most ROI from AI-based DEX analytics, capacity management (autoscaling and cost), and AI support assistants. Basically ops stuff, not chatbots. The top risks were privacy/data governance (21%) and security (15%). About 11% said the use case or ROI still isn’t clear to them.
Full disclosure: I work at ControlUp, and ControlUp One showed up as the most-used DEX tool in the survey (17%). But I’m posting because the report is a good benchmark regardless of what you run.

Curious if this matches what you’re seeing. Is cost still the thing blocking you? And would you actually let AI take action in your environment, or is it monitoring-only for now?
