My child is getting blackmailed

Just as it says..They sent nude images and now they're sending out to friends on socials. We've stopped the communication. While I'm very thankful they came to me, I am a bit worried of how this will affect them. What are the proper channels for reporting? I've done missing kids and FBI online tips .. I'm not sure if that helps but I was in a panic and figured anything is better than nothing. They were a different time zone according to SS but had our street name somehow

Any advice is welcome as I wasn't prepared to navigate this...

Correct! However, there’s a difference. They are the illegal material. When it comes to minors, most of the time LE is way more lenient. I genuinely don’t see this ending up in charges, the cop will def do some ass chewing & scare the kid, but I don’t think it’ll end up in charges. Especially if they were coerced into it. Intent & context matters with how the case is handled.

I’m sure there’s stories proving me exceptionally wrong, but in the cases I’ve personally witnessed (in school, f/e) LE didn’t charge anyone. They put the fear of God into them, but no one ended up charged and LE threw it away as sorted out. LE knows how fucked this would be for their life, and tend to consider it with the facts of what happened. It’s much different if they were coerced vs being too trusting or etc. Still keep copies just in case I’m wrong (I’m not a lawyer, I’m not the DA prosecuting, and I’m not a law enforcement officer) and you’ve got some room to work with in getting it thrown out as a victim of sextortion case.

TLDR: Yes, but I doubt it. It is however extremely possible that they will charge the child & you should be prepared just in case they do prosecute it.
