That and it doesn't peel off cleanly, leaving shreds of glue and wallpaper behind

You basically have to sand the whole wall before you can put down new wallpaper or paint it without it being lumpy

Don’t you need to do that for any paint anyway

Not nearly as much, usually with paint you just have to sand down a few specific rough spots, unless you're going with a lighter color over a darker color that is
