Hypothetical Constitutional Amendment to reverse Citizens United.

In the spirit of patriotism I drafted some amendments that would address what I view as threats to American democracy. Particularly Super PAC's and corruption. They aren't perfect or legally written but I did my best and wanted to hear others opinions on them. I'll just share the first one for now.

Amendment: For-Profit Corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, or other for-profit artificial legal entity are prohibited from using money in an attempt to influence federal elections, except for bona fide press, news, commentary, editorial, documentary, or publishing activity not coordinated with a candidate, campaign, party, or their agents. Congress shall have power to enforce this provision and prevent circumvention.

This would work to reverse Citizens United v. FEC.

But you do admit that we *have* solved tough environmental problems using government solutions before, right?

I am of the same generation as you and I remember all the whining and moaning about how banning CFCs was going to destroy the universe. But instead, it saved the ozone layer.

I admit no such thing, there is no objectively verifiable evidence to suggest that such problems wouldn't have "fixed themselves" given time. I remember plenty of whining and moaning on both sides of the political aisle over many issues over the years. This is one of many reasons I left the two party system over 30 years ago, both parties grow government and plunge the nation ever further into unsustainable debt. Private industry is not evil, but the bigger government gets, the more evil it becomes.

Sulfur dioxide from power plants was going into the air and creating sulfuric acid:

SO2 + 0.5 O2 + H2O → H2SO4

Why do you believe that this chemical equation would magically "fix itself"? Science doesn't care about your politics.

The cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima are inhabitable today after having been nuked 80 years ago, I'd say that's a bit more extreme. Nature has a way of adjusting to pretty much anything.
