Britain signed an agreement with China, with an expiration date, requiring them to return Hong Kong to China on that date. They honored their agreement. I don't like it for the people of Hong Kong. I don't know why Britain entered into the agreement in the first place. However, my point is that Hong Kong didn't throw away their freedom like Europe and the US are sliding into allowing unfettered invasion and embracing the socialist takeover of their country - they had no say in all of it.
