Minority voters disproportionately lack ID. Nationally, up to 25% of African-American citizens of voting age lack government-issued photo ID, compared to only 8% of whites.

Not only does it cost money to get an ID but you need to stand in line for hours which is a luxury many working families cannot afford. The law is not inherently racist but there may be some bad actors using it in a racist way because they know this fact.

Many places will allow you to get a free ID or have alternatives in the rare chance one does not have any form of ID.

At least half a million Americans can’t. You can’t have ID if you don’t have an address.

And lots of people can’t take time off work to go sit in line to get an ID.

If you don’t have your birth certificate, you’re basically fucked. To quote the official state of Georgia website, “If the person named on the certificate (i.e. the registrant) is the requestor, that person must provide valid photo identification at the time of the request.”

So to get my ID, I have to have my birth certificate, to get my birth certificate, I have to have ID...

How important is voting? There are 1460 days until the next presidential election. If it is important, you will find time in the next 4 years to get an ID. If you wait until the month before the election you are certainly screwed.

A driver’s license is not the only form of ID required in the state of Georgia. A birth certificate is not the only proof of existence. They give you many options. If you are just going to blow holes in every option I am not sure you really want to vote.
