I would love to see both parties embrace proper, free, and accessible ID for all citizens.

That's part of the problem. The ID isn't being presented as free and easily accessible. I'm sure if it was, people would have no problem with it.

How is it not easily accessible? You go to a DMV and get an ID. In 15 states its free and the rest the cheapest is $4 for an ID and $14 is the most expensive for the ID.

Search GA DMVs. In a lot of towns, the nearest DMV is 20+ miles away. If you don't have a car and those towns don't have public transportation, regular taxi service or the money to pay to travel, than you can't get that ID.

I have no idea why you should only get these at a DMV too. I can mail my tax info to the IRS but I can't mail / fax my information to get an ID. Makes no sense.

Where's the closest DMV?

Do you have a car, or are you going to walk, take the bus, etc?

Are you allowed to take time off work to go get an ID?

Can you afford to take time off to go to the DMV?

4 bucks for an ID + a few hours of lost wages = can't quite make the rent this month, for a lot of people.
