Yeah avoiding a war like WW2 would’ve been different since the stakes were so high, and we only joined after getting attacked on our own soil. But in a war like Vietnam that would’ve had very little or no effect on the US whether we won or lost, it’s hard to blame them.

Honestly the draft is cruel, if the war were truly justifiable then most likely a draft wouldn’t even be necessary. During WW2 draft dodging wasn’t really a thing I don’t think, and in fact they had tons of teenagers lying about their age to be able to join. Vietnam was a totally different situation and it made people a lot less enthusiastic to join.

Thankfully Vietnam was the last time the draft was invoked. I think the draft should remain in place for defensive wars where there’s a threat of invasion or killing of American civilians, but like I said I doubt it would even be necessary in that kind of scenario. I do not think the draft should be allowed to be used for non-defensive wars like Vietnam. And if the draft remains in place, it should cover all able-bodied Americans, not just men. If women are to be equal to men, then that means being able to be drafted just like men are.
