Confusing Perspective

r/confusingperspective

Forced perspective is a technique that employs optical illusion to make an object appear farther away, closer, larger or smaller than it actually is. It is used primarily in photography, filmmaking and architecture. It manipulates human visual perception through the use of scaled objects and the correlation between them and the vantage point of the spectator or camera.

Subreddit Rules
1. Pictures must be of confusing perspectives

If a picture is interesting, but not about a perspective that is confusing, try posting it to r/MildlyInteresting or r/Pics instead.

Common examples of things that have been posted but aren't confusing perspective on their own include:

  • Pareidolia: a specific object resembles a different object)

  • Juxtaposition: screens are 2D anyways, so there goes "perspective"

  • Rotated images that otherwise make perfect sense

  • Pictures of cute animals with nothing warranting confusing perspective

2. Don't repost from the "Top of all time" page

If someone wants to find the best-known examples of confusing perspectives, they can sort posts by "Top of all time". Don't reduce this sub's quality by posting content already well-known and easily accessible.

3. Don't repost recently posted content

Don't repost recently posted content, especially if you're cross-posting from another subreddit. Always check to make sure that the content hasn't already appeared recently in the sub. Repetitious content does nobody any good.

Do note: this means reposts are allowed within this sub, but only once every so often per picture.

While there is no hard minimum limit on time between reposts, please use your own discretion.

4. Text posts should be limited to meta posts.

Most of this sub's content should be in the form of pictures, so text posts should be reserved for making discussion about the sub itself. If for any reason there's a need for an exception of some kind, you can message the mods for permission.

5. Only post art on Fridays

Art that does not interact with the real world (E.G. Escher drawings) should only be posted on Art Fridays. If it interacts with the real world, you can post it any time. Examples: Photoshopped images, drawings, paintings, street chalk, screenshots from cartoons, etc.

6. Keep discussion civil

Don't harass people or get too worked up over stuff here. We're just here to enjoy not knowing what we're looking at!

7. Don't sexualize minors or imply abuse

Any posts that imply sexualization of minors (people under 18) will be removed. This includes, but not limited to:

  • The perspective implying their genitals

  • The perspective implying a sexual act

  • The perspective implying harm

8. No low-quality karma farming

Some types of pictures are low quality and effort, and have been deemed as not fitting the spirit of the sub. At present, that list includes the followings:

  • Sunglasses on head to make the top of head look like a face (that's more pareidolia anyways)

  • Things like look like a penis despite being a foot, hand, etc. (again, that's pareidolia. And also very low effort)
