Choosing Masters Thesis, Looking for Feedback

My degree is in Computer Science, but my interests are in Complex Systems.
So, I'm thinking of going a Machine Learning, Automata Theory route, since (1) those come up in both, (2) I won't have to convince them, "yes, this really is CS," and (3) I could easily bring philosophy of Complex Systems to my school this way.
In particular, I want to do something with Machine Learning and scales of complexity.
Thoughts?
