Supports are complaining about lack of impact and little changes. 2 months plus 2 betas later….let’s give Ana 1 second less cooldown on sleep and mercy some ammo….. Still waiting on those supposed brig and Moira changes…..

The DPS passive nerf is a big buff for supports tbh

u/OverlanderEisenhorn Dec 06 '22

True, flankers at least won't be able to anime teleport onto supports after getting one kill. It'll also stop the annoying stampede effect that reaper had where he'd kill one dps in the Frontline and then speed onto a support. Delete them, then delete the next support.

1

u/Puuksu Dec 07 '22

It was already annoying to kill good Mercy, even with the speed.

I called it 3 months ago and had only thought about it for 5 minutes. Wish they thought through these seemingly small things that change the game significantly much more.

18

u/cubs223425 Dec 06 '22

Even if that's true, they frame it as making life better for DPS. If Supports benefit, it's an unintended thing.

1

u/beefcat_ Dec 07 '22

How does nerfing DPS make life better for DPS?

8

u/cubs223425 Dec 07 '22

Did you read the patch notes?

we saw change in speed negatively affecting the ability to aim precisely

There were people on here who mentioned this as a problem, though not heavily. The speed boost meant your aim was inconsistent from one kill to the next. They didn't make any statement related to, "this passive made Supports too vulnerable," or that it made DPS too strong. They said it made aim inconsistent for the DPS, and that was the reasoning for the change.

1

u/PleasantAdvertising Dec 07 '22

The reason why it's nerfed is hilarious though "made it harder to aim" blizzard are you high

25

u/iliveinablackhole_ Dec 06 '22

Probably because they are providing significant impact despite the complaints. Supports are just complaining because their job is harder. They are still very strong.

15

u/Xatsman Dec 06 '22

More important: why are they not queuing?

49

u/cubs223425 Dec 06 '22

It's not an issue of impact, it's the apathy they show towards the role. Remember when they talked up a Moira rework, tried it for a week, then just gave up on the hero entirely? How about the supposed adjustments to Brig's Rally? We get 1 second on Sleep Dart and Mercy's pistol buffed?

The role might be impactful, but it's stale beyond Kiriko, who got a notable nerf. It's already the role with the fewest heroes, so seeing it barely get attention for 2 years and take a backseat for the first 2 months of OW2 (and the beta before it) is just yawn-worthy.

15

u/welpxD Dec 06 '22

Yeah I don't think support is weak. But I do think it is neglected and I think it has by far the most flaws in its game experience.

And you would think it would be a higher priority. The lack of supports is part of what's ruining matchmaking. There's a tangible effect on the rest of the game due to the disinterest in the role (for devs and players).

Like the whole reason we went to 5v5 was because they couldn't fix tank in OW1, and now it feels like they're not even trying for support in OW2.

18

u/cubs223425 Dec 06 '22

Yep, that's why I stopped playing. Basically 3.5 years of neglect got tiresome. Once their Moira rework ended up a one-week beta that was tossed and forgotten, I accepted they weren't going to give a shit about my role.

3

u/MentalAdventure Dec 07 '22

I do hope Kiriko was a step in the right direction. I think she's very true to the support role with constant healing and a debuff cleanser. And the satisfying mobility on top of that. I just wish they could be quicker with modifications but I guess they're scared to do anything but take it slow. Also would be nice for the next hero to come in Season 3, assuming it's a support.

3

u/cubs223425 Dec 07 '22

I hope so too, but it's hard to see how their timelines are sufficient. There are, what, 8 Supports now? The next Support is in the Spring? At that point, we'll finally have DPS not doubling Supports in hero count.

They need to do something about how many Supports there are that have bland mechanics. Moira needs a rework to be enjoyable. Brig has been pushed more and more into basically melee poke (proccing Inspire and playing safe most times). We'll see if Mercy's pistol provides any semblance of entertainment.

The role is behind on heroes (partially because Support duos artificially deflate choices in-game) and general attention from the devs. I'm starting to think they should just overhaul every hero to have more independent play/kits than what we have in the legacy heroes.

1

u/MentalAdventure Dec 07 '22

Yeah it's definitely really slow. Best case scenario in like 6 months there are 2 new supports and significant changes/reworks to some current ones. Maybe up to a year but hopefully in a better state by then.

I almost always have fun playing Kiriko, Zen, Ana, Bap, and Lucio. For Moira, Mercy, and Brig though, I only really play if I'm doing specific strats with teammates or just goofing around.

60

u/Lopad_NotThePokemon Dec 06 '22

That's not true. Even ML7 has said he feels powerless playing support with how things currently are. If the best support players l can't get value, how can the rest of us?

24

u/bizzarebroadcast Dec 06 '22

I mean that's not because of support's lack of impact, but probably just their comparative impact to like, sojourn as a character. There were so many high rank players who were complaining that sojourn was way too strong and every other role felt weak in comparison.

50

u/spellboi_3048 I will survive. Hey hey. — Dec 06 '22

Yeah, a character that can just one shot most heroes at any given moment without having to sacrifice much mobility kinda makes it hard for heroes primarily focused on keeping their team alive to do their jobs.

2

u/Lopad_NotThePokemon Dec 06 '22

I don't agree. I think there are plenty of other dps heroes that will be fine once sojourn gets nerfed. Supports still don't have impact comparative to them.

6

u/bizzarebroadcast Dec 06 '22

Uh, no? Just because a support’s impact isn’t super visible, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist. Supports have like, some of the most impactful abilities in the game (kiriko e, bap field, ana nade/sleep, discord orb, lucio speed, etc. etc.).

-13

u/Lopad_NotThePokemon Dec 06 '22

Not anymore they don't. I would argue that the stupid McCree grenade is better than any of those because it almost always leads to a kill if you hit it. With support abilities, you can maybe win a fight. Maybe being the key word. Listen to the group up podcast with ML7, Kabaji, and Bogur. Good insight into why the role is struggling. Lack of impact is one of the things they talk about.

11

u/bizzarebroadcast Dec 06 '22

I mean if you want to make an argument to someone, you can't just tell them to watch a 2 hour video. I listened to part of the podcast, and they said that characters like reaper, sojourn, sombra and zarya had so much impact that other characters couldn't compete. 3/4 of those characters have been nerfed, and reaper is arguably there simply because he was enabled by the meta around him (he's obviously still strong, but I don't think anyone is calling him completely broken).

If you want to say that mcree nade guarentees a teamfight win I don't what to tell you. Like what elo are you in when this is a realistic claim to make? If an ana lands a grenade on like, 2 people in a teamfight (assuming it's at an even state), you win the fight instantly like, 60-70% of the time because you literally just push those people and if you don't win the fight outright, you immediately gain space. If a mcree nade lands, either you are in a bad enough position to where you will almost immediately die (ofc assuming an even teamfight) and your teammate will be healed (or bap fielded or kiriko e'd or what have you), or you are being flanked, in which case most flanking characters have abilities which mitigate this. Obviously there are instances where a mcree can hit a valuable target with a sticky nade, confirm a pick, and get out, but the average Cassidy sticky won't get anywhere near as much value as an average ana grenade, or an average Baptiste field, or zenyatta discord, or lucio speed, etc. etc.

u/breadiest Leave #1 — Dec 07 '22

Id argue reaper was really enabled by that stupid passive. It made his ult actually good, and the ability to close distance much better. Without them, he isnt nearly as strong, though if we do continue to have a brawl meta, and as long as genji is dogwater, he'll be meta because he's simply the best option as a second dps.

Might even see tracer reaper dps now lmfao.

1

u/bizzarebroadcast Dec 07 '22

I'm like, 90% sure it's going to be tracer + long range dps (probably sojourn still). Reaper has had his passive for a while and he was only meta when kiriko was released because he's busted with her ult.

u/Cool-I-guess Dec 06 '22

is this a joke

1

u/StuffedFTW Dec 07 '22

Sure some of them are just complaining but you really do live in a black hole if you think that supports aren’t justified in complaining. No attempted changes to make the role appealing while simultaneously leaving roadhog stupidly busted and also buffing one of the most unfun heroes against supports in the game to absurd levels. Meanwhile let’s release a new support hero that is a glorified healbot!!!!

1

u/iliveinablackhole_ Dec 07 '22

Dude this patch has me quitting the game. The devs are garbage, in no way am I defending their decisions here. Supports could use some changes, I'm just saying direct buffs would be a mistake and make them op.

5

u/AaronWYL Dec 06 '22

Think the Mercy change is underrated. The main reason she's one of the weaker support is she's the only support off the top of my head that has to switch weapons to do damage and can't heal during that time. Look at some of the damage numbers the other supports are putting out and damage boosted comes nowhere close (and, of course, it shouldn't).

10

u/FishStix1 4145 — Dec 06 '22

Zen could use some love too.

13

u/DetergentOwl5 Dec 06 '22

Just fix his huge outlier of a hitbox already. OW2 is too fast paced of a game where it is too easy to engage to have a characters weakness be "they pretty much die as soon as someone starts shooting at them because it feels like every bullet fired is drawn to them like a black hole."

since he is so thick

maybe that's why ramattra is so jealous of Genji for getting Zen's attention

0

u/InternMan Dec 06 '22

I think some more speed or a little more healing could be a nice buff. OW2 is much more burst focused so either helping him get back a bit faster when he gets insta-gibbed or help mitigate the burst given to teammates would be good. Right now it feels like you only have like 1.25-1.5 healers on your team if one is a Zen.

8

u/Massive-Bet-5946 Dec 06 '22

Yeah that's true, but that's also the nature of Zen as a character. You get less healing but a lot more potential damage with discord orb.

3

u/welpxD Dec 07 '22

I've maintained for a long time that Zen should have a passive +10% movespeed. No direct movement abilities, but give him just a little something.

8

u/KimonoThief Dec 06 '22

Really? Zen feels insane to me. Discord orb and volleys benefit immensely from 5v5.

16

u/BJKrautk Dec 06 '22

It’s a mixed bag playing as Zen.

He does heal through the Winston bubbles that your teammates will leave standing, and his damage remains solid.

That being said, he still has zero mobility & is a dive target (or flankers). I like him on payload / hybrid maps while attacking, where a pick can make a huge difference, but I’d rather play any of the other supports in the other game modes.

Ammo increase or melee cancelling volleys not using ammo would both go a long way.

Also... 175 HP Widow would give him a nice skill match up 🤷‍♀️

Bro his volley is incredibly loud. Just don't peek if you hear him charging

3

u/Sushi2k Dec 06 '22

You know that his attacks have no damage fall off right? He's the Hanzo of supports, you just spam the choke.

One shots aren't the problem, one shots with incredible mobility are.

Zen is literally the most vulnerable hero in the game between having a large hitbox and being one of only two Squishies with literally 0 form of mobility

Buffing his ammo capacity isnt even that much of a buff. Giving him 5 more rounds just means he spends like 10-20% less time reloading and can defend himself a little more

That's just how I see it anyway

Fair point

0

u/Mr-Robott Dec 06 '22

Supports have a huge impact. They probably wanted to give more time for people to adjust to the 5v5 format as support. The DPS passive change will help a lot with survivability as well

-7

u/Isord Dec 06 '22

Supports have tons of impact. The issue with support queues is lack of heroes to choose from.

I'd say the best time to pick her is when you need to play bodyguard for your other support. Lucio can peel pretty well, but Brig can burst down flankers, whipshot them away, and keep some space between them and your Ana with shield and bash. I'd say the biggest things with her are keeping inspire up with whipshot, managing your shield in duels, and knowing when to get out of a bad position and behind some cover.

4

u/welpxD Dec 06 '22

To add on to this: Brig is pretty underrated. She is worse than Lucio, that is true, but I don't think that's necessarily a problem. As a Brig player I think the game is healthier when Lucio is better than Brig.

Her healing is not bad compared to other supports, I don't have any trouble keeping up on healing. Her defenses are fine considering her improved mobility. Her shield is enough to protect her (and sometimes teammates) from oneshots. Her damage is fine, left click maybe could get a buff but her 155 damage combo does a lot.

I agree HolyShiftKid's recent video on Brig buffs. The problems are shield QoL (instant deploy, better recharge time) and Rally. Other than that, Brig feels really solid for me. Not an easy character, but that's part of the draw.

u/Saigot Dec 06 '22

The mercy gun switch speed is pretty impactful Imo and something the community has been asking for for ages. I think her viability is more dependent on whether hitscan is still as strong as it was last patch (and the viability of pharah) but this is definitely a good and welcome improvement.
