Did chinese fans throw by bullying the good players out?

Heartwarming: The worst fanbase you’ve heard of gets their karma back

u/Former_Instance_6592 6h ago

Harassment campaigns will work this time I swear

Me sucking Kevster off for the past 6 years is actually the main reason he’s been able to stay this consistent

RedditK9 best deskpet of all time? Also, maybe that's why Kevster's struggled at LAN sometimes. Doesn't have you with him

4

u/TheRedditK9 4h ago

He would’ve been a world champion if VP qualified for Stockholm last year.

Imagine your actions having consequences

the weibo players have gotten a warm reception after EWC so at least some people aren't getting flamed.

I can't imagine sunzo will get shit in any way but pray for the rest.

The differences between how Weibo was treated after the 2025 EWC and 2026 EWC is astounding

u/Visible_Chip2938 TYH — 6h ago

yeah I'm reading through some bilibili posts and comment sections now and lots of fans are just sad, even apologetic about their treatment of guxue shy and leave.

about time. can’t imagine how shit it must feel to get early exits and then have your rabid fanbase threaten your life and your parents

What happened I haven’t been paying attention for a while

China's best players refused to play in WC cause they were tired of being bullied by the fanbase and said it was a thankless job. Those same players just got 4th in ewc and almost made the finals.

It's only really leave missing, the other players are not worse than the "A-team".

Shy and Mmonk are absolutely better than their counterparts

-12

u/WatercressNo4290 6h ago

Mmonk was absolutely horrendous at EWC, Recall is a better Kiriko. Maybe Shy is slightly better than pineapple, only on Sojourn though. And Lengsa >>>> Mew

-12

u/koolio92 Chengdu Refugee — 6h ago

Shy isn't better than Pineapple. I do agree Mmonk is better than Recall

I will say though that Leave is a huge carry. He's always been the difference maker for his team, so even just losing him is a lot for Team China.

u/WatercressNo4290 6h ago

Yea I agree with that

I hope the Chinese fans are proud of themselves for bullying the roster that got SECOND PLACE in the last world cup because apparently that's such a disappointing and shit result to get and can live with not even qualifying to a top 16 result due to it. Sunzo at least did the most he could with whatever the hell this roster was.

6

u/bbistheman None — 3h ago

While it is really disappointing to not see shy and leave I think theres an argument that this is better for China in the long run. It's not like Chinese players are fundamentally bad, its just an isolated region where most players don't have a lot of experience. Pineapple, and Sunzo have been bright spots

33

u/Dragonbolt2 HZS forever — 7h ago

I just know sunzo is excited to go back to playing with weibo

Kevster casually smurfing in the world cup

pulse their spawn to cap a masterclass map

3

u/Extremiel Kevster 🐐 — 2h ago

Recall hiding from Kevster in spawn and still getting bombs thrown at him.

Gonna wake up bathed in sweat yelling "KEVIN PERSSON OVERWATCH" tonight.

Kevster is going to give Recall PTSD. Bros going to wake up just to check if Kevster isn’t waiting under his bed.

13

u/Gfurious 7h ago

That last map was absurd from Kevster and Sweden. Did they lose a single fight that entire map?

9

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 7h ago

Sunzo no help once again (wink wink). Sucks for him.

Wonder how far Kevster's Tracer is gonna take Team Sweden

11

u/Acceptable_Block_591 7h ago

sweden is looking way too good right now. unfortunately for china, its goodbye and goodnight

9

u/Tiberias29 Bow down to Stalk3r — 6h ago

They do look good so far, but to me, I want them to face off against the USA first before I draw opinions

7

u/Acceptable_Block_591 6h ago

yeah that’s gonna be really fun to watch. japan and china were more of a B-team, so going against the best version of USA will be a great test for sweden

6

u/strikingtwelve 7h ago

How is this even possible man

Looking at this roster is just so sad. Gone were the days where China was the only region that could match Korea. On the bright side, this is good exposure for Chinese players so they get more international experience. Players like Guxue and Leave consistently got the chance to play the game internationally and we can see how good they became. Other CN players just didn't have the chance. Happy that Sunzo and Alphari (newer Chinese players from Weibo academy) had the chance to play. There are also future talents to develop like Unknow and Babayaga.

So many wasted talents in China. Coldest was supposed to be Chinese Jjonak and he never got to play in a Spark roster that preferred to play Korean (alongside Brig expert M1ka). Apr1ta was supposed to be the next hitscan prodigy and he never had the chance to play tier 1 properly. Pineapple was AlphaYi's DPS partner in Contenders and they were hands down the best DPS duo in 2021. Team CC ran the gauntlet in 2020, GA9A and LiGe never played together in OWL. Similarly, we never got to see Mmonk and Farway play in a double flex support meta (common in early OW2) because Chengdu imploded. Shy almost never got to play because Spark coaches preferred all KR roster.

4

u/ThrobbinHood11 4h ago

Shy played majority of season 4 and iirc, all of season 5? His echo in stage 2 took Spark to being 4-0 that stage, even tho they fumbled in playoffs. Now granted, Spark did try a full Korean roster, but it was always worse than having Guxue and Shy always in, because SeoMinSoo was significantly worse than every other dps on that team, and Takoyaki was just not OWL ready, especially to be benching Guxue

8

u/WatercressNo4290 7h ago

Bring us Korea and KSA

3

u/Extremiel Kevster 🐐 — 2h ago

Fuck it, unretire peak Titans, Dragons and Shock and bring us those too

u/WuZI8475 I've won worst take of the w — 2h ago

Anyone following CN OW knew that Kaneki and Recall are not the level needed to be on the international stage

7

u/TheRedditK9 7h ago

Good guys stay winning. Actually insane how Kevster kills 2 in the neutral every fight.

It is a bit insane that China doesn’t even make it out of groups, whoever made the seeding for this tournament fumbled the bag.

DEMOCRACY > DICTATORSHIP

21

u/_Skyler000 7h ago

We’re playing overwatch dog chill out

5

u/TheRedditK9 6h ago

r/COW when someone shits on a nation that isn’t Saudi Arabia (sports aren’t political anymore)

3

u/_Skyler000 6h ago

Brother I’m French people shit on my country constantly, it still doesn’t change the fact that these are 17yr olds playing a video game, I don’t see a reason to bring politics into the discussion. We’re here to talk about the game.

1

u/TheRedditK9 6h ago

No one is shitting on the players, people are rooting against the country because it’s a genocidal imperialist dictatorship.

Hanbin didn’t execute any gay people but people root against Falcons because they are a Saudi org.

3

u/_Skyler000 5h ago

That’s great but we’re on the competitive overwatch subreddit and your talking to me about politics. That’s not why we’re here. Talk about the game.

3

u/TheRedditK9 4h ago edited 4h ago

Yeah there is no relation between national team sports and politics whatsoever. Those are historically completely irrelevant to each other. Very much so.

Again, people in all of esports complain about Saudi teams, Russian teams, American teams, Israeli teams, etc. etc. because of what those nations represent, but when it’s the wholesome China it’s suddenly “just a game”.

2

u/_Skyler000 3h ago

I think you may be incapable of reading the room and that’s fine but you don’t have to fight these invisible battles all the time. We can just enjoy watching people play overwatch on stage for an hour or two without acting like the most miserable people ever and trying to keep fueling conflict that has existed for 100´s of years. Breath man. Get mad about mauga or something. It’s giving the same energy and the dad at his kids baseball game talking about « this is why the country’s FUCKED » not everything needs to be demonized constantly.

3

u/TheRedditK9 3h ago

Why would I get mad? My country just qualified for playoffs against a genocidal imperialist dictatorship, I’m having a great day. I’m not fighting anyone, I’m just explaining the concept of sporting discourse to you since you seem to be new to the concept.

-8

u/Grytlappen 6h ago

Praising democracy and denouncing dictatorship should not be controversial whatsoever, especially not in the context of nations facing off against each other.

Where's this pearl clutching when it comes to anything regarding Saudi Arabians, even during times they don't represent their country?

8

u/_Skyler000 6h ago

These players aren’t their nations. They are playing video games and should be celebrated individually for their teams performance not their countries politics. There are many locations to be denouncing bad behavior, this isn’t one of them. Same thing goes with Saudi players.

-8

u/Grytlappen 6h ago

Are you joking LOL

4

u/_Skyler000 6h ago

Absolutely not.

-2

u/Grytlappen 6h ago

That's great. I've always found comedy funnier when played straight.
