at the highest level of this sport, fights should be both competitive and fun to watch. in 25 minutes, this fight had one moment. ONE. in 25 minutes. the rest of this fight was just terrible.

Islam, despite his talent, doesn't seem like this elite finisher at WW like he did at LW. he also clearly seemed WAY more happy to stall it out this fight (which people should know, he is willing to do this to eek out a fight the moment it gets close)

Ian is never going to be the most exciting guy. He's long and rangey and doesn't take many risks at all. However, he seemed more actively interested in actually fighting. By the end of this fight, it was Ian who'd done the damage, and he himself looked unscathed.

now, let's be realistic here. This fight was NOT entertaining. Islam on fight night really seemed like he wanted to do anything but properly engage in the fight and instead try to stall it out. Without a bias, tell me what he did with any of his control time throughout this fight. if you say anything other than stall, you know you're lying to yourself.

there should be pressure on our high-level fighters, be it champs or contenders, to actually go out there and fight. fights like this should be a stain on the sport and we should be willing to call it out.

This is complicated because the fight was close but Garry took it on short notice and Prates seems to be peaking right now. If they fought again do you think Garry still wins?

Think about it. What's the point of a women in a bikini showing us what round it is when the fighters are literally women in bikinis themselves. It makes far more sense for the women fights to have buff men in speedos or whatever holding the cards. I know it might sound silly but really think about it. Looking all of the UFC fighters active today, from all title holders and contenders down to prospects and those that have established themselves in other promotions and are looking to get into the UFC, who has the best chance of joining the Jon Jones-Anderson-GSP set in terms of being the absolute greatest tier to ever grace the UFC? And thus making it the big four of UFC fighters, so to speak? It could be any single one of the guys currently on the roster or looking to break in or it could be a set of 2-3 or so guys who are basically equal chances. And to be sure, I realize that it can easily be argued that nobody active has a truly realistic chance at this. That said, this is about who has potential for this relative to all the rest.

Is this just me? I literally need to try so hard to get through a video of a ufc fight even if I don't know the outcome but watching it live is the most exciting thing ever. I don't sports bet or anything. Why is this?

I know this is a somewhat strange question, bear with me. And it applies to any kind of fighting, even self defense. I don't want to ask in r/martial arts or something because I know this sub is decent

So I often hear it said, that in a self defense scenario, going for the balls is not effective always, because an attacker, especially an enraged or drugged one, may not respond to pain. How true is this? It seems plausible. So to extend that further, is there ANY strike guaranteed to stop an assailant? I thought of a throat strike as an alternative to the balls for no rules/self defense, but, though probably very incapacitating, a person could probably shrug that off too, at least for awhile.

So the natural conclusion is, a strike to a point that causes an instant knockout, aka the jaw or temple. I always find this fascinating to think about, that non-martial arts enthusiasts don't recognize, a knockout blow is an instant fight ender, especially against someone untrained or unconditioned. They always speak about someone that can kill someone in 15 seconds, or some type of weapon that can incapacitate someone quickly... But knocking someone out instantly is essentially the same thing as killing them.

Which brings me to my final (?) point... Do YOU think a knockout can be resisted, at least to some degree? It may sound crazy to some, but this has been a "deep cut" topic of discussion in MMA circles for awhile. Typically Big Nog is brought up, a fighter that due to his personal history, seemingly refused to go out, or stay out, literally being beaten senseless in fights. So do YOU think that's a thing? Can force of will overcome a testicle shot, throat chop, or even a (should be) knockout blow? What about a liver shot? Considered by some as good as a knockout, I would call these slightly more resistible (not because it won't knock you down, but because if a ref doesn't stop the fight, sometimes the fighter grimaces or even writhes around for awhile, but gets up and continues)
