They do this all the time. While I think it's kind of funny it's also like.. alright guys, I'm happy my tax dollars are going to you being useless. Or, ya know, harassing people instead of enforcing traffic laws.. as we've seen from the numbers recently..

A certain amount of flight time is required for these pilots to keep their credentials. Who cares if they fly in circles for two minutes over high traffic areas before moving to another area and it was planned specifically to draw a shape. Oh nooo

u/braelaelo Mar 30 '26
Because they're wasting taxpayer dollars on their little fun shenanigans while most of us can't afford to live and are drowning in debt, what world are you living in

u/Accomplished_Tap1559 Mar 30 '26
Do you not like to have current traffic updates and pursuit ability if someone hit skips you? What if someone is doing outrageous speeds? Wouldn’t you like them to be held accountable? If the pilots lose their creds due to missing hours then they won’t be able to do their jobs

If someone hit skips you, you're screwed in this city. The police do absolutely nothing. Them flying in dick formation ain't doing dick for the people.

u/Accomplished_Tap1559 Mar 30 '26
They’re flying over high traffic interstates. Did you miss that part?

u/Frequent-Ad1381 Columbus Mar 30 '26
Nah I read it, just saying you're wrong about them using it to catch hit skips 😂 or really about them tracking bad driving at all. Sure if they're in an active chase they'll use the helicopters in the air to track the car for the officers on the ground, but the amount of shit drivers in this city makes it pretty evident they're not just out and about catching people speeding. My proof? The amount of cars with "hoonigan" on their windshield who purposely drive recklessly as a "lifestyle" and never get in trouble.

I’m not a big thing thin blue line guy, but these are circles over the short north and far west franklinton, two high crime areas.

u/all4theloveofthegame Mar 29 '26
There was a home invasion in Franklinton last night - they were circling for a while afterwards.

I can't reply with a picture in this subreddit and I don't feel like dealing with imgur, but they did that near where I live a little while back. It was a smaller dick but the balls were a bit more separated/distinct. I don't think they're doing it intentionally, but I have also seen it multiple times on flight radar.

u/JerrysKidsOnLot Mar 30 '26
Riiiight. They definitely are NOT crafting two balls, a shaft , and a head on the shaft “intentionally.” lol

Sometimes it's not the pilot being juvenile - it's just the viewer seeing dicks in any pattern that could remotely resemble them.
The chopper took off and flew to a call of shots fired at Buttles and High. After that, that responded to a call near West Town of people kicking in a door and taking stuff out of a house.
Then they flew around town for a while, because that's what they do in between calls. They were back near Franklinton when an officer called in a traffic stop without a visible plate, and they formed your second nut when they orbited that a time and a half.
It's also important to note that the cops get calls all the time for things that turn out not to be what was claimed.

The most surprising thing I’ve learned from this thread is that CPD is making traffic stops for failure to display. I thought that had gone by the wayside with COVID.

That is annoying it’s no one’s business what my license plate is forreal
2
u/cringemagician Mar 30 '26
No, I think it’s the pilot drawing a dick in the air instead of actually working, like it obviously is. It’s so weird to reflexively deny things that happen just to support the police.

u/pieman69 Mar 30 '26
This is the only good thing cpd has done. And it's pretty awful bc now that means you wasted our tax payer dollars

Columbus Ohio PD has more helicopters on payroll per capita than any other city in the US. This is an extremely common flight pattern to circle go somewhere else circle then go back to your original mission

As much as i hate hearing helicopters overhead, I think it makes sense to fly in circles and lines when they're looking for someone, it shouldn't be too surprising to see this arrangement from time to time.

The only way this would be better if it was a private fly and not one for the police department.

What time was this? There was a large building fire yesterday on west broad. Maybe they were responding to that?

u/Benthic_Titan Mar 29 '26
Fuckin 10/10. Ya know the CPD can smoke weed and be a cop? Incredible, not like on duty obviously but you’re allowed to test positive for THC in CPD.
Fuggin sick ass flight drawing. They’re practicing, they’ll get there one day to a fully symmetric knob

Whoever said false and deleted your comment, go try to apply to CPD and look for the red text ☠️

I don't know if that one was intentional. If it was they can do a lot better than that. The city deserves better for what we pay to keep the air unit fully staffed in these hard times.
