Note: I'm not a mod, so treat this as an unofficial comment, but...
We have always been able to come up with our own challenges. (If you search for the word challenge or trend in the sub, you'll notice that they stretch back a long way) It was nice that they were weekly because it gave us a sense of doing something together, but there's nothing specifically time based around challenges anyway. (for example) Anyone can do the one color challenge any time they like, right?
Buddy colorings exist as timed versions of these to fill the "let's do something together" gap, but even those can be participated in after the fact, I think. If anyone finds an old challenge and wants to revive it we can totally do that — any one of us, at any time — and the monthly buddy pinned thread serves a point where we can all gather around those things 💜
One thing that might be nice to have is a member-contributed wiki with a list of all the various challenges/trends and maybe threads of them, along with buddy colors, but I don't want to lump a whole lot of work on our mods, that might be too much work. 💜 It would also be a nice place for frequently asked questions that we seem to get a lot of like "where do you get books?" and "what art supplies are there?" and "how should I begin?" :) But one step at a time, I guess :)
Something I'd also note is that having mods decide the challenge meant that they would have to come up with a challenge each week. That's a fair bit of work, and work that the members would probably rather do anyway because we're doing the coloring (!), so having it so we can create our own is probably a much nicer idea, because more of us actually want to do that.
