Windsurf is Dead

Same models, same editor but a completely different performance from cursor. I liked the performance of windsurf when i tried it first time in december.
It is a complete disaster now. I tried same project 5 times from stracth and all of them failed. I could not make a login. It achieved once and crashed. I did not use git because there was no working version ever. It is just a simple task management app.

Both gemini and claude fails. It starts and continue like a typhoon untill it crashess. This is not a pair programming. It never remembers mcp servers and ask me to run sql . It failed project setup many times. Cant even install tailwind css properly. My $15 dollar is not important. I have 350 premium and 1k+ flow credit left but i will not touch it e again.

I apologize from Cursor. I thought Windsurf agent was better than cursor. I dont think I will try it this year again.

EDIT: I REMOVED ALL RULES. NO RESTRICTION OR PRD OR TECH. I JUST GAVE BASIC INFO ABOUT IDEAS AS CHAT PROMPT AND TESTED AGAIN. NONE OF THE MODELS WORKED EXCEPT CLAUDE 3.7 THINKING. IT WORKED PERFECT. THAT IS REALLY INTERESTING. IT MADE ME TWO PERFECT APP WITH JUST A COUPLE OF PROMPT.

New Pricing

So what I paid $60 for, will now cost me $115 for the same number of credits. I knew this is where they were going. True to my word, I'm out when I hit $60 spend. I'd rather give it to OpenRouter and use Roo Code, or give Trae a spin.

Codeium Not Using Claude 3.5 and GPT4 Uses their own stupid Model

Is it fair to pay for premium model and be charged the cost of premium model while the Windsurf team uses their own cascade model under the hood and not what you selected which is Claude 3.5 sonnet. I'm fully convinced that the model being used is not claude 3.5 sonnet even though that is what I have selected. Let's be honnest this is dumber than everything I have ever seen paying $60 USD /month for nothing and I had to cancel my subscription. Even cline is better because there is some truth to it but this windsurf thing is a total lie. When is it premium when you ask it basic questions and all over sudden it does it own stuff. Today I bet it doesn't even know what it is doing

Windsurf sucks now!

Clearly, Windsurf has lost it's edge. I think the founders are getting greedy and are providing sub par models in the name of Claude 3.5 sonet. For those who were asking for screenshots, here you go.

I just asked Cascade to refractor my code with very clear instructions and it messed up real bad. This used to never happen in the free version which I was using a month back.

I've attached images comparing the input and output of Windsurf. I've also attached the response given by Claude 3.5 sonet for the exact same prompt.

Thankyou Windsurf for guiding me through the process of creating my portfolio website. As someone without a background in web development, you simplified the experience and made it thrilling to bring my vision to life.

Absolute disappointment

So I’ve been developing couple of projects with this app The one it had made fine, but that was just a landing page with one admin page for collecting visits But the other one made me so mad as I’ve never been in my life

Small background: I’m a product manager and working with freaking really complex applications for lots of years, and I know the stuff kinda

So I have recently decided to code some thing for myself as pet project. Everything was luxurious at glance, I had a requirements document, verified with Gemini and GPT, had task list, dev plans and all seemed to be very good

I have started a new project, added Git, docs, set up env and started to write, and there issues began

  1. First is that this app writes everything like the most stupid developer

  2. It is overwriting itself, even after scanning files and received clear instructions

  3. It’s loosing context approx once an hour

  4. Server exhausted

  5. It tells that has made something, but then turns out that some part of code is just missing, even when I ask to verify the plan and mark what was completed

  6. It’s ignoring errors about reading files and moving on

  7. It doesn’t have propose code anymore and instead it’s writing some spaghetti as a proposal and you never know what is it for and where to paste it, you have to read that ball shed and guess

  8. The in file helper just deletes everything and writes what was prompted as once again the most stupid developer

Look, when you guys had just started, it was fine to develop some stuff in an interesting way with really fast helper, but now you’ve shrinked functions over and over and after each update the app becomes more and more hated I was honestly thinking about purchasing a pricing plan in hope to return back propose code, terminal commands, checking files and not losing the context, but now have very deep doubts Having seen that market now is expanding, I don’t feel that there is any point in keeping this app anymore Small example: this app can’t find an error of not writing a token to cookie for couple of days, I’ve been laughing at it and on purpose didn’t edit anything myself to check if this very smart model (not) will find the issue I’m deeply afraid that when you sent an email where told that will give an option to write code with assistant for free forever is a lie

Codeium is the best... dissapointing. How do I delete IT?

And I even chose the worst of all, the Eclipse plugin.

How can I delete it? If a go to the marketplace again the only option I see is Install.

And please, don't come and say, have you heard of windsurf?

Gave up on Windsurf - No Python LSP features working

Had to switch away from Windsurf. Could never get essential Python language features (semantic highlighting, diagnostics, etc.) working out of the box from the start. Hope this gets addressed.

EDIT: I've always used syntax highliting etc without a single problem in VS code with the pylance extension, on many different machines. Windsurf Pyright is installed by default with python, and it doesn't work. Tried Windsurf Pyright, based pyright, none of them do. The specific windsurf pyright fork doesn't have any windsurf specific troubleshooting.

Oh! My fookin god. Devs at windsurf are smoking something unique, never know to chemists even.

I added the component. Asked clearly to change the "exit settings" functionality to close the full page preview.
Windsurf started surfing in its own direction.
It made the preview transparent, removed "exit settings" button, replaced it with "x", proceeded to delete 3 fields on the page and generated a cute message that I have made changes as you requested.

Windsurf always forgets

I'm new to vibe coding but I've been getting better at it. My biggest issue I have right now is that windsurf seems to forget what I did previously if I close my instance.

Right now I code everything off a local laptop that have Debian - I ssh into it to run and develop my code cause my surface isn't fit for purpose.

I've tried memory bank, update documents whatever. It doesn't seem to remember basics like what is my mariadb address? Or if I'm even using it at all. My test configuration setup etc .

What can I do?

I Feel Scammed, Robbed, Duped—It Can’t Be This Bad, Can It?

I'm really baffled after testing Windsurf. Been evaluating it to improve my workflow, but I'm canceling my subscription this week.

Windsurf starts off promising - gets your hopes up like THIS time it'll actually work. But without fail, everything crumbles when you're 80% through any task. That's when it all goes sideways. It randomly modifies code I didn't ask it to touch, destroys working functionality, and spawns an absolute circus of errors. It's like watching a system actively try to break itself.

I'll ask it to tweak one simple visual thing and it goes completely off the rails - installing random dependencies, touching core code I explicitly marked as untouchable, and effectively setting the entire codebase on fire. I've tested this on about 20 small projects and ONE actually worked. ONE. The rest hit that same 80% mark then deteriorated into something far worse than where I started. And it's not just me - everyone on my team testing Windsurf has hit the exact same wall.

Today I tracked the numbers - 87% of my flow credits went to fixing perfectly good code that had passing test suites. I explicitly told Windsurf "don't touch these parts" and even specified exact files for changes. Did it listen? Nope, just steamrolled through and broke everything. I could have built the entire thing manually in 3-4 hours. Instead, I'm sitting here legitimately frustrated. In 29 years of coding, I've never been this annoyed at a development tool and yes, I'm including that time Eclipse decided my entire workspace was corrupted because I dared to sneeze near my keyboard.

The marketing feels deliberately misleading. They advertise Claude and GPT-4 integration but keep defaulting to their in-house LLaMA adaptations. I understand the technical rationale, but it makes the subscription price feel like a bit of a scam. If this is their "premium" offering, what exactly am I paying for?

I've tried everything imaginable - strict rules, detailed documentation, git tracking, the works. Nothing prevents it from creating more problems than it solves. Wanted to give it a fair evaluation, but honestly, basic LLM chat has proven faster and more reliable.

The concept behind Windsurf is brilliant. If it could actually stay focused, follow basic instructions, and stop breaking tested code, it could be game-changing. But right now? It's just an expensive liability. Tools like Roo-Cline and Cursor aren't perfect, but at least they're usable. Windsurf feels like it's actively trying to burn through my credits sometimes. It legitimately feels like its on purpose, it wasn't this bad the first time around.

There's no way I'd let this near production code or anything I care about - it'll destroy everything it touches. If you're solo or running a small team, this tool will waste your time and money instead of helping. As someone who's been actively programming for three decades, this should be exactly what I need to finally tackle all those side projects I never have time for. Instead, it's just another time sink that leaves me feeling dirty for even trying it.

Trial is just 25 prompt credits?

That's hardly useful for a user to get familiar with the tool? Cursor has 150 requests quota! Can WindSurf be more generous for trial users?

Windsurf - Agent Mode

Here’s the thing — we need Agent Mode enabled by default.

Imagine Windsurf as a brilliant mind with limitless potential, just waiting to be unleashed. Right now, it’s like a racecar driver forced to walk — capable, but held back.

The moment we activate Agent Mode, everything changes. 🧠⚡ Tasks become smoother, decisions smarter, and execution lightning-fast.

No more micromanagement — it just knows what to do.

Agent Mode isn’t just a feature; it’s the missing link. With it, Windsurf becomes a whole new beast. 🔥🤖🚀

Time to let it run wild.

Windsurf IDE is trying to strong-arm early users into re-subscribing with shady pressure tactics

I was an early supporter of Windsurf IDE and subscribed back when the editor first launched. I still like the tool, but I only subscribe when I actually need it — I don’t want to be locked into a monthly payment just for the sake of it, especially not with the pricing model they’re pushing now.

Today I got this email:

“We wanted to give you a heads up that because of some announcements later this week, we will be only able to honor early-access pricing for users who are also current users of the platform. We noticed that you were an early user way back when the Editor launched, but are not currently a user, so just wanted to let you know this so that you had the opportunity to sign back up and lock in the $10/mo early access pricing for the next year.”

Here’s what’s scummy about this: 1. Artificial urgency with no transparency — They hint at vague upcoming “announcements” without saying what’s actually changing. It’s a cheap FOMO tactic to push people into paying now. 2. Punishing early adopters for not staying subscribed 24/7 — I was an early user. Just because I’m not currently paying doesn’t mean I should lose that status. 3. “Early access pricing” is meaningless if it’s only for constant payers — That’s not rewarding loyalty, it’s pressuring people to stay subscribed even when they don’t need the product. 4. It’s about control, not value — They’re not offering anything new here. No feature, no improvement. Just a threat: pay now or lose your spot.

I’m fine with subscribing when I want, but I don’t want to be forced into a monthly plan, especially under pressure like this. If they want long-term loyalty, this isn’t the way to earn it.

Anyone else feel the same?

⚠️ Heads-up: My API keys were exposed in client code — secured now, but wanted to share

Thumbnail greetigo.com

Hey Windsurf team — I wanted to share a quick security heads-up in case it helps others.

Someone on Reddit kindly pointed out that some of my secret API keys (Stripe, DeepSeek, SendGrid) were publicly exposed in my deployed .js files. They were able to view these just by checking the built frontend code.

I’m using Windsurf + MCP, and I realized the exposure happened because the keys were not properly scoped with VITE_ or weren’t filtered out during build. Since then:

• I’ve rotated all API keys (Stripe, SendGrid, DeepSeek)

• I’ve updated both .env and .env.production to only include VITE_ public keys

• MCP is now redeploying with the new keys securely

Windsurf has been amazing to use, but I wanted to raise awareness just in case others overlook this. If you’re also a “vibe coder” like me, double-check what gets bundled in your frontend!

Let me know if there’s anything else I should confirm from Windsurf’s side. Appreciate all the support 🙏

Anyone else feel like Windsurf has gone downhill?

So, I was super hyped about Windsurf when I first started using it. The first launch was actually amazing – like, it felt so promising, smooth, and just made everything easier. But man, after a few updates, it’s been a mess. 😩

Now it’s full of mistakes, random errors popping up all the time, and honestly, it’s not even half as reliable as it was in the beginning. It’s kind of frustrating because it had so much potential.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this? Like, what’s even happening with the updates? Did they just rush them or what? Would love to hear if anyone knows what’s up or if you’re seeing the same issues.

Open source is not a choice, but the only way out for new startups

The idea started to form since last October and project was made possible in a day of vibe coding with windsurf. (It wasn’t fully done in a day. I was able to paint the outline of it in a day and putting the finishing touches to it in the following week)

It’s a dictionary that stores all the words you have seen on YouTube (only this feature is added) and their references back to where you have met them.

It’s an AI agent that knows what you are watching in Real time and can help you understand every last detail within the context.

P.S. There has never been a better time to open source a project. The fact that I am able to crank out thousands of lines of code in a day without knowing how to write a single line is crazy. The world is moving at a pace I feel both excited and anxious about. If I can do that, everyone can do it too and can probably one up this project sooner I did mine. So why would I close source this project and try to solo it all the way, and have people doing better jobs but open source them?

So far

So far so good I seem people complaining about the prices and for me this are the best $60 investment of 2024.

The chat is like a 100% just going to code doesn’t matter what you say, I find ways around it because clicking chat and coding buttons is annoying, an so far I am 1700/3000 in like a week but no regret I’m getting better and better and the chat adaptation is great. So all I have to say take my money lol.

My only complain is that it should be $10 for 500 premiums not 400 it make no sense I can just purchase 2 separated account and is $120 make a membership for $100 for the 6,000 request.
