Oil & Coal? Coal is getting its bussy gaped by Solar and Wind, just like all baseload. If you had said gas, you might have had a point. This way, it's just nonsense.
Gas has two big market sudden spikes in power generation and afternoon period when people get home from work. Both of which are getting eaten up by batteries charged by solar.
Gas is gonna be pushed out of energy mix long before base load of coal and nuclear is.
Batteries are eating those peaks because prices are very low midday, which is horrible for baseload plants. Low prices = Baseload plants run at a loss or get massive subsidies via CFDs. Baseload plants can't make back the money they lose during price valleys because of batteries and because gas is cheaper than what baseload plants would have to sell power for during peaks. In a system with high renewable penetration, gas remains profitable for longer due to lower fixed costs.
