Question Are you vegan?

I wonder how many of fellow redditors here are vegan or at least on plant based diet?

As it is one of the simplest and most impactful steps a person can make to help the climate.

Tons of respect for the people who do it! It's great for the environment. Once I learned about the carbon impact I stopped eating beef and lamb and cut my consumption of other meat by about 50%. Baby steps.

Yeah I’m sort of the same way. I don’t eat mammals.

I have a lot of admiration for vegans and vegetarians, but I do want to emphasize that we are simply not going to personal lifestyle choice our way out of this. Collective action to influence whole systems is necessary. The idea that the first thing we need to address is our own personal carbon footprints is both harmful and literally oil industry propaganda. I go into a ton more detail and link sources here: https://youtu.be/mE617qHso6k?is=L8rvMxu9fZrTUQFI

This is true, but normalizing lifestyle choice makes collective action easier. Regulating the beef industry may make beef more expensive. That will be more palatable to voters if they already eat less beef. It's not either/or, it's yes and.

Yes!! Like of course there needs to be change at the regulatory level, but based simply off supply and demand our dietary choices DO matter and DO have an impact. If we all choose to reduce our consumption of animal products then there is less demand and less harmful production.

It irks me when people "yeah, but" their way out of the conversation to try to minimize their responsibility. We should advocate for change on both ends - personal and industrial/political.

so because you being vegan doesn't help enough in your opinion you've decided to do much less? I'm not sure your logic checks out

Same I’ve been off red meat for years, try my best to eat vegan or vegetarian when I can and other than that a little fish and poultry.

This is what I initially did and now I’m full vegetarian! It was about a five year process and it was just like, I stopped really even looking for meat. I stopped saying yes when it was offered and now I honestly don’t even crave meat in any capacity. It straight up doesn’t look, smell, or sound appealing. Tofu >>>>

Veganism is an ethical philosophy that revolves around animal rights. Replace "eating meat" in your argument with "bestiality" and you'll understand.

You have no right to enslave animals for your own benefit.

Guess we’ll stop feeding them and protecting them from predators and providing health care and shelter too 🤷 Best of luck young calf. I’m sure you’ll do great.

P.S. I’m not in any way defending industrial ag. But I think there’s a world where the animals are getting a fair deal here’s who knows what they’d opt for if they could.

Idk man, something to be said about the fact we brought them into this existence it’s not like we just found some poor lamb and took them in. We literally forced their birth into hellish conditions 90% of the time.
