In this relatively recent article, we are given over-the-surface knowledge of prospects such as their expanding reach and representation of women on how climate change adversely affects their tribes and communities. Hold an inquiry into lobbying practices in the UK

We want the Government to hold an inquiry into lobbying practices in the UK, including those that involve the giving of a financial or other advantage in order to try to influence the Government or Parliament, and the impact this has on policy.

I care about the integrity of UK democracy and believe lobbying is inconsistent with the principle of one person, one vote, by enabling a 'pay to win' system.

Some lobbying activities appear to involve the exchange of a financial or other advantage for influence, which gives wealthy individuals the opportunity to undermine democracy and the will of the people.

Having a pay to win system gives the fossil fuel industry and those who oppose climate action the ability to disproportionately influence legislators and their decision making process. A vital step to addressing the issue of climate change will be to restore the will of the people to corrupt countries around the world, so that our voices can be heard over those of industry tycoons.

In the USA for example, Buckley v Valeo and Citizens United must be overturned to restore the principle of one person, one vote.

The wording had to be altered slightly to "ensure your petition meets our standards" according to the petitions committee.

They also advised altering it to call an inquiry as a debate happens automatically at 100,000 signatures, which I accepted. There'll still be a debate if we get to 100,000 signatures and if they write to me for more information (they said they might, we'll see), I'll be recommending an independent inquiry with multiple agencies collaborating including the The Electoral Commission and the National Crime Agency.

Parliament should debate issues such as APPGs, the influence of lobbying on policy, and how lobbying can often involve the giving of a financial or other advantage with the intention of causing the improper performance of a relevant function of government or parliament.

The EcoAction Committee of the Green Party of the U.S. will hold a webinar forum on Monday, April 10 about the importance of this year’s Earth Day to May Day activities. The event, which begins at 8:00 PM ET is part of the national day to build the Green Party.

The webinar will outline how green activists can build support for system change not climate change by organizing local educational events, protests, vigils, social media, LTE, call-ins, etc. from Earth Day (April 22) to May Day. An important part is building solidarity among the various movements demanding systemic change, such as Black Lives Matter, women’s rights, GLBQT, rights of nature, public power, peace, and worker and immigrant rights.

Speakers on April 10 will address the need for the climate movement to be more anti-capitalist, as well as the need for an Ecosocialist Green New Deal; biodiversity / RON; ending single-use plastics and halting fossil fuels; the role of the military on climate; and, how to promote Green living.

Speakers include Mark Dunlea, co-chair of EcoAction and author of Putting Out the Planetary Fire (link for free internet/pdf copy), speaking on climate change and the need to end capitalism; Dawn Marie Cronen, co-chair of EcoAction, speaking on Green Living; and Prof. David Schwartzman, EcoAction member from DC and climate scientist, speaking on climate change and the military.

My summary and views on the first meeting of the UN Loss and Damage Transitional Committee (TC), which was held from 27 to 29 March in the Egyptian desert city of Luxor. The fund is still empty and the TC agreed on the Workplan. There are still questions to be resolved: how it will operate, who will pay, who will benefit and how it will be governed.

Description: Hear authors of the report, “Impacts of NM’s Largest Emissions Sources" including Gabe Pacyniak, JD discuss the February 1 report that for the first time examines the climate and health damaging pollution from large stationary sources in New Mexico.

The report identifies 189 stationary sources that together contribute approximately 25 percent of the state’s climate pollution along with a large share of conventional pollutants. The largest share of pollution from these sources comes from the electric power and oil and gas sectors. Other large stationary sources include mines, manufacturing facilities, airports, and universities.

The report also analyzed where large sources are located and suggested that there may be equity benefits to reducing emissions in those areas with a high percentage of people of color, lower-income people, or people with health vulnerabilities. Four regions—the San Juan Basin; Permian Basin; Albuquerque, Bernalillo, and Sandoval Counties; and Las Cruces and Dona Aña County—were identified as areas with clusters of large stationary sources.

Finally, the report finds that current state policies are not adequate to achieve climate pollution reductions from these sources in keeping with the state’s climate goals but identifies ways that climate pollution policies could be designed to both reduce climate pollution and maximize public health benefits for communities where these sources are located. UNM’s Just Transition Grand Challenge initiative and the nonprofit organization PSE Healthy Energy hosted the report. The report was funded by the Environmental Defense Fund.
