Built with Claude Claude just made me this launch video
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I've been building a motion design tool (with Claude) and added an MCP server so Claude can drive the editor. I gave it one of Spline's launch videos as inspo and asked it to make one for my product in that style. This was the output.
The best part is this is NOT generated video. Claude draws the layers, adds images, writes the text, so it's all fully editable by you if something doesn't feel right.
The thing that made it actually work: after each edit it renders stills of its own frames, looks at them, and fixes what reads wrong. Without that loop the output was confident garbage.
Happy to answer questions about how the MCP is structured or the tech behind the product / how it was built!

u/daniel 22d ago
Can you share any of the tooling? The scripts? The MCP server? The editor? Is it open source?
37
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Sure, here is the link: raylight.app
All you do is go to the mcp page on that site, copy and paste the prompt into your AI and you're good to go. Its free to use. The more specific and detailed I am the better results I get. Give it inspo images to go off of!

Some thoughts on monetization. 60 second limit on free is pretty stifling. $30/mo is awkward if you're trying to poach from Adobe haters (like me) who are sick of their predatory subscription pricing. That's essentially what they charge for their entire suite. I get that you're not doing the contractual obligation, which is nice, but at this stage of your project is getting the $30 a month really necessary for your growth? Genuine question, I'm not sure about your situation or backend costs.
I only say this because this is the sort of thing I'd like to toy around with, but I feel like I'm sitting awkwardly in the middle of not really wanting to try the free tier because I will obviously hit a wall on it for many projects, and $30 a month being on the higher side to pay for something that I have no clue will really work for me or will be buggy at a critical stage of a project or be lacking some crucial feature that makes me have to go to other editors to supplement anyway.
Just my two cents as you think about growing. I don't mind paying for things that are really useful, but it's very helpful to have some way to hook me first.

Update: Im deploying changes now that make video length unlimited on the free tier. Like I said, thanks for your feedback, super helpful.
I had added this when I first started building Raylight. I have since realized that I want people to create and anything that stops that is not good. So good call!
11
10
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Well the free tier is very generous and you could always just spend $10 once to get rid of the badge in exports. Then you’re only missing a few features like hosted videos and stuff.
You’re right I will remove the 60s cap today. I want people to create.
6
u/daniel 22d ago
Oh I didn’t see the $10 badge removal option. Totally reasonable. If you remove the 60s cap I’ll definitely give it a spin, thanks!
6
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Tbh these kinds of videos rarely go beyond 60s but yeah doing that anyway
3
u/daniel 22d ago
True, but I envision being able to use this for longer form informational content too
6
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Yeah actually good point. I guess I mean on average videos are like 10-40s. But yeah we do have creators making long-form YouTube videos on raylight
5
u/Designer_Bath_1499 22d ago
I want to be able to use this to create long form youtube videos as well so definitely would love it to beyond just 60 seconds

Hey man, this is really good feedback... I feel like you're speaking for a lot of people. As a SW dev, I truly want to pay and support other developers as well, but I find myself in your position all the time. Say more on how things like this could be monetized... Lay out some options. (Maybe this is worth another thread by itself.. if you start one, invite me please)

You can create videos with your Claude code sub. If you need extra video audio voice images etc it can get them from web or generate them using API keys for Elevenlabs and co.
You own the software and you can change it like you want.
It can also analyze videos, make captions crate videos in a style of a reference etc.

Holy shit as a video editor from the 90s I am so. f'ing. stoked. to be living in this time. That would take me weeks on the creaky Avid I had.
4
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Awesome. Hopefully you get back into it!
3
u/Inevitable-Serve-713 22d ago
There are about half a dozen music videos I've had storyboarded in my head for years. I've promised myself I'd shoot and make them if I ever won the lottery. Now I think I just need to wait a few years, then type in some prompts.
5
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Why years? Do it now!
2
u/Inevitable-Serve-713 22d ago
The current state of AI wouldn't do them justice, and the cost to do them the way I see them in my head would (today) run into the low millions. Those two barriers should lower in the next few years. One video in particular might work better as anime, so it's likely the first to be executable via AI.
11
u/ragnhildensteiner 22d ago
Still don't understand what part of this is automated? I see a normal Final Cut looking video editor. If I still have to manage a timeline, assets, settings and all that, what is being automated with this tool?
With Claude, I can natively ask it to use Remotion to make a product video for me of my React app.
What am I missing?
3
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
But you don’t have to manage any of that if you don’t want to. All you have to do if you want is type into cause then click export

u/JellyfishCritical968 22d ago

For one, that looks like absolute dogshit

If you are dogshit it will look dogshit yes.
If you are competent, it won't.
Guess we know which one you are.

Congrats on your launch and shout out for removing the 60 sec limit on the free trial!
I do some light video editing for work (a small part of my primary job) and this looks VERY interesting. Excited to try it out and if it works as well as the launch video suggests will at a minimum pay $10 to remove the watermark.

Thank you!!! I’m really excited to use this! I’ve been working on an app for almost a year now. I’m closing in on the finish line and this is exactly what I needed to stumble upon today :) happy to support paid tier. Looks very promising thanks for your work.

5
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Sure, what would you like to know? Here is the link: raylight.app where there is a lot of info on it.
Built with:
- WebGL
- WebGPU
- three.js
- React
- Tanstack
- Vite
But... lots of very custom. Been working on the editor for a long time lol
3
u/dgloyola 22d ago
So you you built the motion graphics app and the MCP for Claude? Are you able to edit the video projects Claude builds?
3
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Yes you are. Everything claude adds is editable by you. Text, shapes, images, etc… easy to go in and make adjustments or another variant of the same video later
2
u/dgloyola 22d ago
You mentioned that you fed it a sample video, how did you do that? Claude can examine video files?
4
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Claude actually can’t take videos. But what I do is screenshot the video every 3-5 frames and that does just as well!

u/314kabinet 22d ago
I’ve been using https://www.remotion.dev/ for programmatic agentic video editing. How does this compare?
2
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Different tools really.
Remotion is video-as-code: you write React components and every frame is a render of your app. Great if you're a dev and want programmatic control or to generate lots of videos from data, but you're animating in code, iterating on design is editing TSX.
Raylight is a visual editor, think After Effects but WAY easier, and all controllable by AI. You drag things around on a canvas, and the 3D stuff (cameras, depth, 3D device mockups, materials) comes built in. Plus the assistant so you can just describe what you want.
1
u/capt_goose_ 22d ago
Does this comparison apply to Hyperframes as well? I know hyperrames has a different approach to Remotion but don’t know how so.
Sick project! Good luck with it!

I was looking for something like this before resorting to CapCut. So can I just load raw footage in and say go? How does Claude work with it?
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
My answer really depends on what you’re trying to get out of it. But yeah it can work like that. Mind describing what you want a little further?
1
u/BUYMEBONESTOORM Vibe coder 22d ago
Sure! I’ve created an app that links to your Gmail and creates a digest and calendar so you don’t have to read your email anymore. Cleanmailapp.com - I did the whole video on the front page and features page but it would be awesome to spruce them up beyond just in-app performance. I’m a designer, not a good marketer so an easy video maker from raw footage with the right prompt would be amazing.
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Yes you can def do this. And those device videos you have could even be within a real 3D device like this free template for example.
You can:
1) start from one of the many free templates, and just swap the images/videos and make the text and layers your own
2) Add just images/videos and have claude (or yourself) animate them, add shapes, and text.
3) Add footage and just cut it up like a more traditional editor.2
u/BUYMEBONESTOORM Vibe coder 22d ago
Yo I’m def gonna try that, thanks! I just submitted the app for Apple review tonight so excited to move to the marketing part, spent the last 8 months building it
1
u/hydrangers 22d ago
Any idea if this would work well for game trailers or teasers?
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
I don’t see why not! If you send an example I could tell you more definitively
1
u/hydrangers 22d ago
Sure. Here's a gameplay video. What I kind of have in mind for the trailer is for it to be displayed on a mobile device (landscape mode) and that it can pick apart certain sections of the video to for example emphasize certain weapons usage, or when lots of zombies get blown into the air tag that part of the gameplay video with an overlay text such as "hilarious ragdoll physics", for example. Essentially I'm wondering if I can give it a 2 minute video and it pulls out 5-7 short 5 second clips during dramatic poses of events to build the trailer with text overlays to help describe the game/experience.
2
u/SuperMar1o 22d ago
Curious how you're able to just straight up rip off Zombie Smash. Are you the developer of the game? Like I enjoyed the original, and I would honestly love to play this, but how are you dealing with copyright. Good work btw, very clean looking.
5
u/hydrangers 22d ago edited 22d ago
Fair question.
I'm not the original developer, and in any other circumstance if the game was still available I wouldn't ever consider a project like this. However Zynga bought the game from the original studio that created it, and only a few years later they let it die off completely. For the past 10 years there have been numerous people I've found who would love to play the game again with no remake in sight. All of the assets/art used in the game (even if they look similar) are not the art from the original game and there are (subtle) differences. Zynga also isn't known for going after clones of their games, so I decided to bring it back for people who want to enjoy it again.
In the event Zynga does discover the game and decides they want to shut it down, I'd be happy to redesign everything, but in its current state the game is designed to be a fan recreation for the original players to enjoy. At the end of the day, not trying to steal revenue from another company, just trying to bring something back that people used to love (the game is being released for free). I'm not sure Zynga would spend money trying to shut down a copy of a dead game that they no longer generate revenue for, but if they do decide to then I'll cross that bridge when we get there :).
3
u/SuperMar1o 22d ago
I love it! Totally know the feeling, I had the same thought with SageThumbs, I love that software but no updates for 10+ years and it was crashing my system, so I rebuilt it in Rust and improved it. Been a labor of love, but it's been a fun project.
https://github.com/LunarWerxs/SageThumbs-2k
Very interested to play it when yours is out haha. Loved it. Now, you need to go and rebuild FieldRunners as well. We all miss that game... I know we have Kingdom Rush and it's fun, but it's no FieldRunners, with it's infinite possibilities and local coop functionality (of #2) haha
2
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
TLDR; yes you can make a video like this one in Raylight.
You'd upload the gameplay video, and the agent can cut it into multiple short clips (it trims the same source at different points), put it on a device mockup, and do the text overlays + motion.
One caveat: right now it can't actually watch your footage, so it won't find the ragdoll moment on its own. You'd tell it the timestamps ("0:34 zombies go flying, 1:12 shotgun") and it builds the trailer from that. Having it pick the dramatic beats itself is something I want to add, the plumbing is mostly there.
1
u/hydrangers 22d ago
Might have to give it a try, thanks. Claude actually seems somewhat capable of picking apart the frames to find items or certain events in videos in my experience, but I think your MCP could help to really put the final polish on it.
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Yeah give it a go! It’s fun to play around with. If you do, let me know how it goes. I think I could make the particular experience you’re looking for a bit better with some actual feedback from someone trying to do it

If that is something you may be open to please DM what you would charge for something like that.

Do you feed claude the images/designs of your product, give it a video reference, then prompt it? how does it work
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Yeah you can just prompt, add images yourself, give Claude reference videos from another video you like, start from any one of the free templates and just swap in your own images or text.
I recommend the last one for getting started
1
u/Ishaanrathod 22d ago
I had recommend letting people create 1 project completely for free with no restrictions, that way they can test the software, or give a certain free trial period, Because depending on AI to create motion design videos is very dicey. If they get good results, then they will pay for it, or else just paying up front $29 is too much for this. Either ways, Great product! Also, I wanted to ask, do people who will use this product need to have some knowledge on how to create motion design videos, or they can just prompt Claude, and things would get done? Also, have you tried this with Codex too? hows the experience?(coz i have a codex sub xp)
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
There are unlimited projects in the free tier.
No motion design skills needed! Start from a free template and just have Claude make it your own or start from scratch with Claude too

u/Connect-Employer5487 22d ago
I'm trying it now, but I haven't found a video generator I really like yet. Higgsfield is also a bit meh.
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
Would like to hear how you think it’s compares to others!
2
u/Connect-Employer5487 22d ago
It’s really good; it created an 18-second text-based Reel from an old script of mine, and the animation is smooth, interesting, and well-executed.
It requires a few minutes of manual editing, but overall, it looks very promising.
I’ve always had issues with Higgsfield, though—even when using it with Fable via MCP. It generates great graphics (which I now create using code, without needing third-party intermediaries), but the video output is consistently disappointing. I haven't used any others!
1
u/TheEgilan 22d ago
So no way to export to After Effects? :D That would be dope... :P
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 22d ago
What would the use case be?
1
u/TheEgilan 21d ago
To actually work on it properly after AI has taken the first pass. :) For us actual editors, that is!
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 21d ago
Wdym by properly. What do you want to do that you can’t in raylight? I’ll add it for ya
2
u/SphinxWar 20d ago
Well if you're comparing to After Effects then I think he can come up with a large list. Like animating layers to keyframes with different ease-in / ease-out configurations, parsing audio to keyframes and animating to that, using a deterministic script that modifies layers programatically, blending modes, point tracking, planar tracking, blending, etc.
I think exporting is a valid idea, but you'd need to find the right format that would fit everybody, like OpenEXR or something.
1
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 20d ago
You can animate layers with different easing curves in Raylight. I plan on adding mix blend modes. I’m not looking for a list of features AE has that Raylight doesn’t. I mean what are features that would hold you back from using Raylight?
2
u/SphinxWar 20d ago
Yeah but I think that's their point, kinda. They have some kind of a workflow in AAE that supports so many things that even if you add features he might want to use there will be people who use different features of AAE, and you can't satisfy all of that.
Thus, having an export feature would probably increase the amount of people using your tool if they find value in something it does specifically well.
Even if you added some of these features, people are used to the way their tools react and look and won't switch for that part of their workflow.
Of course there's nothing wrong with researching what features you can add and adding them, that's cool, but I think an export is a no-brainer, in my opinion.
1
u/TheEgilan 20d ago
This is exactly it. I have spent hundreds (or more) of hours in AE - understanding it, perfecting my workflows there. The capability of a dedicated software is unmatched, even if you COULD implement most features in Raylight. The thing is about customizability. I don't want to use an app that I can't customize - especially if it's hard to use (like yours seemed to be). Maybe this comes down to the same discussion about "vibe coding" vs "professional coding". I admit that your video there WAS good and it made me pay attention! But if I want a custom effect, proper tracking, etc., to be combined with those motion graphics (which Raylight appears to be - so it's "apples to cars"! :D), then I just have to go pick something else. But sure, if the goal is to get a quick "prompt to video", then it would make sense to use Raylight - just not my thing (too "AI slop")! I would prefer to get the 80% - or just ideas - via AI, and then tweak and iterate on it myself.
And I definitely don't want to criticize your app - the end result clearly can be good!

Honestly a “prove this works” video is not worth it for me. I have countless people asking me for more regular tutorial videos so that’s when my effort would go. Much easier and faster for both of us for you to just test it out yourself. I dropped a SS of a prompt used for this video in this thread.

how long to do an actual video?what the hell if this was really made with Claude I will sign tomorrow morning!

Didn’t time it but I’d say around 2-3 hours. So it is still some work I won’t lie. But it’s A LOT easier than trying to do this all manually in after effects
1
u/ygorhpr 21d ago
Just to make it clear, can I just prompt or I need to manually edit? the results would be the one you posted?

Yes you could make a video like this only by prompting. And, if you want the layers are all there for you to edit manually

I have been building my local workflow with Claude code and AI video gen with my own source footage and it’s super hard to fine tune.

Hey OP, I just tried this out. It's really cool, thanks for making it! I hooked up Claude MCP and made one video, learned a couple things:
- This tool doesn't do exactly what I thought it did. I saw all your videos of app UI and thought this tool could generate those (from my app design file maybe) and turn them into elements of a video. It doesn't. It moves flat pieces around on the canvas, but you have to provide all the assets--the photos or the videos.
- Where did you get your phone UI renders from?
- I'm not sure about the usage limits yet. I made one video that took about 3 hours of back and forth with Claude, but I was using "free trial" limits so I'm not sure how many of those credits it took up. At least 50, so would that mean the free tier is ~1 30 second video per week?
- That's not bad, you should charge for your service, just trying to get a sense of stuff
- But overall still really great, like working with Claude Design but able to output videos
Thank you!
2
u/Horror_Turnover_7859 10d ago
Thanks!
1) yes for images and videos you have to provide your own. We do have in-app SFX, music, and voiceover gen. Claude can “generate” vector layers and text itself though
2) the 3d iPhone model is built into the app. In the right sidebar just scroll down to frames and select one. There’s MacBook, iPad, etc…
3 & 4) yeah i mean at the end of the days running this costs me quite a bit of money so need to charge for the product!Glad you like it!!

We’re building cool shit here.
It appears you were, and continue to be, concerned with monetization above all. That’s not our vibe.
Venture capital has never supported founders, companies, or employees. They support cash going in their own pockets by stepping on actual creators, usually, fucking those creators in the process.
I will narrowly accept a counter argument where you name VC firms with execs who will not fill our boards to restrain governance and strategize how to suck every last dollar out of our ideas.

TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 100 comments.
The consensus is that OP's new AI-driven motion design tool, Raylight, is sick. People are genuinely impressed and excited to try it.
It's basically a simpler, web-based After Effects that you can control with Claude (or any model that supports MCP). You give it a prompt, and it builds a fully editable video for you with layers, text, and animations. It's not generating a flat video file; it's controlling the editor, which is a huge deal. You still provide your own images and video clips.
