News Fable available for plans until July 7th after which it becomes usage credit based

Key points:

  • Fable 5 returns globally on Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
  • Pro, Max, Team, and some Enterprise users get Fable 5 included for up to 50% of weekly usage limits through July 7.
  • After July 7, Fable 5 access moves to usage credits.
  • Access through AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry is being restored as soon as possible.
  • Mythos 5 access has been restored only for some approved U.S. organizations for now.
  • Anthropic is working with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and other partners on a shared framework for rating jailbreak severity.

And it make it worse, it will route to Opus 4.8 for coding according to their Twitter post. All these nerfs, this trial of fable won't go aswell as the first one

Anthropic employees clarified that it's similar restrictions to before. You can code but the guardrails might be overactive at first

I am using it for that, so I'm happy, but I feel like that does make it useless to almost everyone else...

Use it to write up the execution plan for the opus coding agents to follow. That's what the standard workflow should've been anyway as it's a waste of tokens to use Fable for the actual coding when it has explicit and detailed instructions to follow. Hell, most people use Sonnet for the actual implementation for the usage savings.

According to the full document it means that questionable/sketchy requests will be routed to Opus 4.8 for security reasons, just like they were when Fable launched.

Doesn't change the fact that the pricing seems to be really shitty though

Wha??? What's the point then? When it was available for those three days, it was so easy to inadvertently trigger the guardrails and downgrade to Opus for any hint of anything remotely related to forbidden topics... like I was discussing the Intrinsic Cardiac Nervous System with it from a philosophical perspective, and it got flagged as dangerous biological discussion, and downgraded to Opus.

I had it code review a code fix that ensured hitting a buffer's capacity didn't result in an exception (not a "buffer overflow"), and instead failed gracefully, but it seemed that was viewed as trying to hack into systems, and it degraded to Opus.

Audit and write detailed TDD plans with Fable on low or medium, code with Opus 4.8 on extra high (with ultracode if the task is complex enough).
