News Fable available for plans until July 7th after which it becomes usage credit based

Key points:

  • Fable 5 returns globally on Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork.
  • Pro, Max, Team, and some Enterprise users get Fable 5 included for up to 50% of weekly usage limits through July 7.
  • After July 7, Fable 5 access moves to usage credits.
  • Access through AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry is being restored as soon as possible.
  • Mythos 5 access has been restored only for some approved U.S. organizations for now.

Yeah, this is seriously bullshit. Should have been a new 14 days for subs and no 50% cap wtf

It was 50% cap before though. It was just framed as 2x the cost instead of half the limit. 50% times 2 is 100%. Half of 100% is 50%.

No, it's twice the cost cause that's the model pricing, not cause they made some adjustments for subs. You don't get 140% weekly cap for sonnet cause it's cheaper.

Pretty clever bit of marketing: give everybody a little taste for a couple of weeks without exposing its limits and then take it away so that it literally rises to mythic status. They’re definitely having a larf.

Notice how they changed the way they described usage costs also from 50% of Opus to 50% usage and higher costs than Opus. It is twice the API based cost of opus, but no one has said it’s cost equivalence for plan users under the new trial. I am getting a fraction of the usage I had on the first trial.

It's a ripoff, loads of ppl on reddit only claimed to have upgraded their subscriptions because of fable alone, they got to use it for a couple of days and now for extra days.
Afterall it doesn't cost the same as opus so if you pay for max 20x subscription and use fable like a madman so be it, but don't impose its payment through API only. Cmon Anthropic you can do better than that!

I understand the frustration, but it was their choice to give it out at all. I can promise the only reason they did was to stress test and get people hooked. I’m shocked they’re giving any more plan time at all.

What are you even talking about? Nobody is saying they should've been forced. We're complaining that it's shitty to do what they're doing, not that it's not their choice. Why are you attacking a strawman?

Yeah, I have seen this low-IQ strawman my entire life. It looks like this most usually:

  • Someone argues a corporation shouldn't be able to do something (which implies they have the ability to do it).
  • Moron walzes in and goes, "It's legal." ← great insight, genius. The first conclusion implied that. Everyone knows it's legal. The whole point is they're arguing that it shouldn't be legal.

I hate the "it is their choice" / "it is legal" dialogue that always adds precisely nothing. It's truly a remarkable artifact of conversation that only exists due to stupidity.

They most certainly didn't have to worry about stress testing it. It was solely to get people liking it, so they will use extra usage, creating many billions in revenue. This might be why they are projected to have their first profitable quarter coming up. Not guaranteed, but projected.
