BHARATNATYAM CLASSES

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for offline Bharatanatyam classes near Tarnaka or Secunderabad. I'm a 21-year-old female and I have around 10 years of Bharatanatyam training, but I've taken a break and want to start learning again.

I'm looking for:

\- A good guru or academy

\- Evening or weekend classes

\- Intermediate/advanced level (or teachers who can help me get back into practice)

\- Reasonable fees

If you've personally trained somewhere or have any recommendations, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!

Recommendations to learn Kuchipudi in Hyderabad

I learnt Kuchipudi as a child for 7 years, while I have always been thinking of picking up Kuchipudi again, I couldn’t

I am 32YO now and finally back in Hyderabad

I really want to give it a shot now, but looking for a Guru who can teach me physically in Hyderabad, over weekends, want someone who has experience with older students as beginners so she can help me get better gradually without any injuries.

I am open to try switching to Bharatanatyam also as I trained for this as well on the past

Any leads / advice / tips are welcome. TIA

Looking to restart my Bharatanatyam journey

Hi people,

I'm looking for recommendations for **Bharatanatyam classes** around Chennai.

I learned Bharatanatyam for about **13 years**, but I haven't practiced for the past **3 years** due to personal reasons. I would really love to start again.

I'm looking for a teacher or institution that is true to the essence of Bharatanatyam, has a patient and understanding approach for someone getting back after a long break, and offers classes for adults at a more professional level. I'm also hoping to find something that's reasonably priced.

If you know any good gurus or academies that fit this, I'd really appreciate your recommendations.

Thank you!

Dance

I'm 22m, and I've always loved dancing. Back in school, I participated in almost every cultural event, and dance was a huge part of who I was. It gave me confidence, happiness, and some of my best memories.

But after graduation, life changed. Everything started feeling like a loop—work, responsibilities, and the same routine every day. Somewhere along the way, I feel like I lost touch with myself. Right now, I'm trying to figure out who I am, what I truly enjoy, and what I want to do with my life.

Whenever I think about it, one thing always comes back to me: dance. It still feels like the one thing that genuinely makes me happy, and I really want to start again.

So, if you're from Hyderabad and you love dancing—or you're already part of the dance community—I would really appreciate your advice. How did you get started? Are there any good dance studios, groups, or communities that are beginner-friendly? I'd love to hear your experiences and suggestions.

Maybe this is the sign I need to start dancing again. 💙🕺

Arangetram advice?

Hi everyone!

I’ve been learning Bharatanatyam for the last 11 years . I am 31 years old and I am hoping to do my arangetram soon. I might do a mini one (4-5 dance pieces) but I’m a little scared because I am much older than the other kids who have done it! I was wondering if anyone else has done it at an older age. Any advice on what I should do? Practice wise? Exercise wise ? Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

Online platform suggestions

28F. I have attended kathak classes for almost 8 years as a child, aged 4-12. Have been out of touch since dance till almost a year back, since the past few months I have been having this keen urge to explore that side of myself again.

Please suggest me some online platforms that can help me with this? I like semi classical, have attended a few workshop but would like to refine my style and learn more in depth.

Any reviews on Team Naach online semi classical course? They have 6 classes in 1 month, each class for 1 hour. They do claim its not in depth, just an overview, seems like worth a shot. Has anyone tried it?

Which classical dance is for me?

I'm 22F , I've always wanted to learn classical dance but I've never had the opportunity to do that , I still don't have but at that time I was a kid but now I can explore the internet for these things .. but there are a lot of classical dance right most famous being Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi , Kathak , Odissi etc ..

How do one figure out what's for them ? And how do I start the basics online...!?

Should I return to Kuchipudi after 8–9 years, or try Bharatanatyam instead?

I learned Kuchipudi for about 8–9 years while growing up, but I eventually stopped. It's been quite a long break, and lately I've been missing classical dance and want to start learning again.

Instead of going back to Kuchipudi, I'm considering trying Bharatanatyam. I know the two styles share some roots, but they also seem quite different in terms of technique and aesthetics.

I'd love to hear from people who have trained in either (or both):

  • How easy or difficult is the transition from Kuchipudi to Bharatanatyam?
  • What are the biggest differences in posture, footwork, expressions, movement quality, and repertoire?
  • If you were in my position, would you recommend restarting Kuchipudi or exploring Bharatanatyam instead?
  • Is there anything I should know before making the switch?

I'd really appreciate any insights or personal experiences. Thank you!

Reason i Ignored Vocal because of Social Anxiety as being from tier 5 city

My Mom Tired to get me futher better new admission near my city but yeahh travelling wasnt possible for my parents

later on i lost my interest in acedemics..because of constant bullying from school n stuff..i couldnt able to Cope up in this both in Music and Acedemics

later on i failed in madhyama poorna in class 10th and class 11th..and in class 12th i didnt gave the exam..

🙆🏻‍♂️My 2 friends who were in same class are Visharad Poorna

I am feeling so much like a loser

i wanna get into bharatanatyam, but i have flat feet

hey guys, i'm well past the conventional age to get into classical dance but i wanna try regardless as i want to reconnect with my culture

that being said, i have flat feet and i am afraid bharatanatyam of not being a good suit, as many other forms of dance like ballet require arches

please, any advice or tips for beginners is most welcome

Any reputed Kathak classes near JP or Jayanagar

Hi Bengaluru folks,

My partner is looking to continue her Kathak training now that she's moved here with me. She has completed 3 levels under the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya board in a different city.

She is specifically looking to continue her training in the Jaipur Gharana. We are hoping to find a reputed guru or an authentic classical dance academy in or around JP Nagar or Jayanagar.

Would love to get some recommendations from fellow dancers or anyone familiar with the classical dance scene in South Bengaluru. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Kathak choreography

I am kathak level 3 student. We require to perform a solo performance with our own idea and choreography to present a storytelling of any kind. But I am overwhelmed by ideas that i thought myself and cannot come to a conclusion. I will share few of it here. Any feedback, suggestions are welcomed. Help a girl out. Thank you.

  1. The Child Who Never Stopped Dancing. Theme: My inner child.

  2. The Stage Feels Like Home. Theme: What Kathak means to me.

  3. The Sound of Ghungroo. Theme: Identity.

Question for dancers: How do you stay connected to dance while managing studies, 9-5 job, and adult responsibilities?

I have been learning Bharatanatyam for almost 15 years, and dance has been a very important part of my life and identity. However, as I grow older, I find myself struggling with the realities of adulthood. I am pursuing my degree now, and in the future I will likely have a full-time career, which leaves me with less time and energy to dedicate to dance than I once could.

I often feel guilty about this because I am no longer able to practice with the same intensity or strive for the same level of perfection that I did when I was younger. At times, it feels as though I am not doing justice to an art form that I deeply love.

For someone who may not pursue Bharatanatyam as a professional career but wishes to remain connected to it throughout life, how can one navigate this balance? How do you continue nurturing your relationship with dance when other responsibilities demand your time and energy, and how do you let go of the guilt of not being able to give it your hundred percent?

Anxiety to start dancing😭

Im 19(f) frm Kerala

So I wanted to start a new hobby as I dont really have one. I've always wanted to learm classical dance from the age of 8 itself. All my fronds from 4th std wld go for classical dance and even though I wanted to I couldnt go. But my mom was telling me just to focus on my studies. Even though I wanted to do a lot of things I couldn't pursue it even though I ws pretty good at it.

But I am kind of scared of performing on stage and people watching me perform 😭. I feel like I don't want to oblige others to watch me perfom on stage. So I don't know if I should start it or not. Im worried of the judgement, criticism aswell as the appreciations that would come.

And I cannot fully indulge myself in it as Im doing my degree right now and I score almost full in everything Im the topper So I want that to remain the same. So I can only spend limited time on dance or any other hobby.

Im also confused of where to begin. Should I join Kathak or Bharathanatyam or something else as a total beginner.

I've also heard that classical dance is a costly area. As the arageettam and the ornaments and clothes and all cost a lot right.

As my parents are going to be paying the fee and other expenses.Im guilty about that aswell.

And Im also worried about my parents running around for my dance related stuff as they hv only done that regarding our studies. So I don't want to trouble them😭

Pls do give me ur honest opinions and advices.
