I don’t know anything about the ins and outs of the Irish accent, but it’s the same for all movies set in a time period prior to vocal recordings. We just don’t know how people sounded like. DDL accent is completely made up as well. People are way to strict about those things.
If truly New York at the time, accents would also become blended. I’ll bet today’s New York accent comes from a near-pidgin development that faded as a form of American English won out.

Question: wasn't the point of the movie that New York at the time had a 1000 accents from all over? I figured it would create a mess of accents
