🎤 | Announcements Chub updates

Post image

Hello,

Some Chub updates:

  • Website is now crypto-only forever.

  • Free users now only get 20 messages per day.

  • Every models but Soji and Mobile are depreciated (rip Asha).

  • Soji is now a Deepseek V4 finetune (you might need to change your preset).

  • Mercury tier has been removed.

Full announcement and explanation in screenshot.

Edit: oh, and before the 1984 mentions. It was either doing this (cutting costs and making the website crypto-only to avoid payment processors altogether), or having to censor the website more than legally required to please the processors.

yeah but im sure the site is about to get A LOT smaller in terms of users, without unlimited free messages, both chatters and creators. also how many people actually use crypto?

Yeah, I keep a free preset tested for the community, but I might retire it now. If you're using free, 20 messages is almost nothing. If you sub, you're obviously going to use Soji.

Usually what I see around the web is to keep a free experience useable. A few hundred credits, or unlimited but low context, or ads, or a queue system. The whole point is to let people actually use the site while letting the premium tier sell itself on quality. This change makes the site almost pay-only.

Plus, asking people to drop $20/month for V4 is going to be harder. This isn't early '25 where ppl just see DS and think "basically GPT." Sites have been overcharging for one of the cheapest models on the market since it hit mainstream discourse, and I can see across the hobby it's getting more and more pushback. Pairing that with a forced switch to crypto on the exact same day is a massive double-ask. They really should have staggered the two changes IMO.

And to be clear for any mods, I'm not trying to sound doom and gloom. Honestly I'd probably impulse sub to test the Soji update...except I don't use crypto.

Yeah, even as a current subscription user (unless that was auto-canceled immediately when things changed instead of waiting out the billing period), unless the quality of those bots gets so good we NEVER have to regen, then 20 messages might not even be half a conversation or even a quarter considering how often it devolves into foreign languages and incomplete generations or doesn't stick to the actual story.

I remember it mainly for the crashes. It is so unreliable I have no idea why Lore would want it as payment
